I’m afraid that ship has sailed, Mllemass. Unless they make a series 5 or a film, he’s not getting one for Sherlock. Yes, it’s an OUTRAGE, lol. But I do think his Museum of Me is fairly crowded nonetheless.

Will Sharpe was wonderful in the White Lotus.
I'm not a fan of MF (I really don't think he is a versatile actor at all) and haven't seen him in that role, so I can't judge him for this nomination.
Yes it was a total outrage that BC never got an BAFTA for Sherlock, but I feel the same about him never getting anything for his absolutely stellar work in The Hollow Crown. But you have to let it go at some point (I keep telling myself this and some day I will!). 😁

Awards are becoming more meaningless by the day. BC has got an absolutely stellar career. When he gets awards it’s nice but it doesn’t really mean very much in terms of his career or how much he is respected as an actor. You only have to see the number of award winners who never really go anywhere much career wise afterwards versus the list of acting legends who won few or no awards to see that ultimately it’s the work that stands the test of time not the shiny bits of metal.

I agree that Martin is not as versatile as some other actors but I still adore him. He usually plays some version of an angry, repressed man with a lot of “looks,” or reaction shots, but what he does is absolutely amazing, to me. His John Watson was phenomenal. He created a complex, completely believable foil against BC’s mad, somewhat silly Holmes. And Martin himself is such an interesting and wildly funny man.

Sharpe was really good in WL but I think it was the women who had the most interesting roles and I’m not talking just about Jennifer Coolidge. I think Aubrey Plaza, Meghann Fahy and the actress playing Valentina were all wonderful. I would say that even between the men, Imperioli and Murray Abraham had more interesting roles! But hey, he was shirtless and Twitter loved it! Lol He still was very good but I suspect he was helped by being British considering that no one else was nominated!
Also Eric director Lucy Forbes is also nominated for This is Going to Hurt. Actually that series was produced by Sister like Eric and received multiple nominations.
EDITED Correction, it seems This is Going to Hurt was the most nominated show this year. Again, by the people behind BC’s new series, Eric.

The thing I really like about WS is that, like BC, he disappears into a role. I don't see the actor, I see the person he is supposed to be whenever I see him in a role.
Each character is so different at a fundamental level- his character in Flowers is sooooo different to his character in White Lotus! And again he has a totally different "personality" in Giri/Haji in the way he carries himself even before saying any dialogue.
I can't say the same about MF at all. In every role I've seen him in he's basically MF playing "______".

Yes, but not every actor is a character actor. That’s sort of a specialization. Many storied actors just are “themselves” on camera. Cary Grant, Errol Flynn, George Clooney, Gary Cooper, even Gregory Peck and Bogart (to a lesser extent). Lots of women, too, like Kate Hepburn. They developed their persona and rolled with that. But it doesn’t, imo, make them any less good actors. They were excellent at what they did, and I think Martin fits into that picture. He doesn’t change his skin like BC or others can, but he’s still damn good. Just imo. 😃🤷🏻♀️

I just discovered something interesting. A few months ago there was an scandal because HBO Max or whatever it’s called now (here it’s still called that!) deleted a few of their original streaming shows. It’s an scandal that it is sadly being repeated in a lot of streaming services.
One of those deleted shows was Will Sharpe’s Landscapers and well, I just found it on Star+ which it’s Hulu in the USA.
I also read that HBO is quietly selling a lot of stuff and I guess it was sold to Disney! At least, in this territory.
