I didn't want to check here but I did! Just in my state (not the whole country) there were almost 300 murders until April!

But it's comparing apples to orange!
Ironically my state used to be a very peaceful place. A few of the cities here had the best quality of life in whole Latin America until the War on Drugs ten years ago. I actually just watched a beautiful movie on Netflix called Ya No Estoy Aquí/ I'm no Longer Here. It's a rare Mexican movie that it's not about social conflict in Mexico City but about social conflict my city! Well, it's also about migration and violence but it perfectly portraits one of our most famous poor marginalized neighborhoods during that awful period. Like in Colombia, that neighborhood is in a mountain and the last scene of the film really happened. A few times, actually!
About Iceland, it sounds like a paradise! In part the series seemed so funny to me because it's an alien world! The police there didn't seemed to have any maliciousness even when again the crimes were extremely nasty and grisly! I can understand people being naive because they aren't familiar with that kind of viciousness but there is still a few perplexing issues. For example, if they didn't have enough policemen (again they were just three: two men and a woman!) then why not to hire someone to guard the corpse! I mean that's kind of important for the investigation and they already had a problem with a teenager breaking in to took some photos! And there is the thing with not having a morgue! I imagine there is some little hospital somewhere in the town with some adequate place to put the dead ones, especially because they know there are those awful storms during the winter that let them all trapped there for months! They would need not just a town doctor but also a near hospital! I guess! But again maybe all those details are just cultural differences!

We see a multitude of mostly young men came down from the neighborhood to the main Avenue armed with sticks attacking and destroying passing cars. Actually the first time it happened I was almost there! We were just lucky to enter to that Avenue ahead of where the attack was happening and the only thing we noticed was that there was no traffic! It was later when we discovered the reason! It seemed as some kind of class war but obviously organized crime was behind it. Those kids were paid by narcos to do that in part to inspire fear but also to get the authorities in trouble. The question is people there were abandoned for such a long time and sadly it was the criminals the ones who entered there to "help" them with some basic stuff (Once they paid them not just with money but also with school supplies for their kids!) It doesn't happens anymore but you can imagine the huge shock it was for a city that wasn't accustomed to that degree of violence!
Anyway, it is a beautiful movie and I highly recommend it! About Iceland, it sounds like a paradise! In part the series seemed so funny to me because it's an alien world!
