I know a few of you are on Twitter, so I was wondering if I could solicit some help from anyone who knows about Twitter accounts.
I was registered with Twitter years ago (maybe 6 years ago?) And even made a couple of posts but that's it. I was thinking of getting back on Twitter (not to post but just so I can see things).
But when I went to log in they asked my "username " and I can't remember it. I tried a couple of things but no dice! I don't have it written down anywhere because I never thought I would need it.
So is it possible to somehow get in touch with Twitter and explain this? Every avenue of "Help" from Twitter seems to require that you give them your username and your email. Email I can do but NOT the username. Am I screwed?

I just checked the “help” section of Twitter, and searched for “forgot username”. They say you can log into twitter.com with the email address and password that you used to create your Twitter account. After that, I think your username will show up.

Use your email where it says user name and then click on forgot my password if needed. Then when you are on, there’s about 3 or 4 accounts you should immediately block who have been trying to start a #savebenedict trend over the last few days. The ones who had that Atlantic article written about them.

Omg those SaveBenedict accounts! 🙄 Morons! I thought we’d seen the last of them.
Anyway, once you get on, follow me @zago_vasna and then check who I follow. I follow all the Ben accounts. That’ll give you a start. Many lovely people, just like here. 🤗

You can follow me, too mllemass (not too original - same as here), but it’s really boring because I rarely post anything. I just follow others.

I did as you suggested and put in my email and when it asked for my password I clicked on "forgot" and then it asked for my username and I said I didn't have that either and clicked and it sent me back to the beginning and wanted my password! I tried it several times and it seems if you don't know your password AND username you never get anywhere. I even tried re-registering and it wouldn't allow that because it said there was already an account by that email! Is there any recourse?

Were you in the twitter Help Centre, or were you just trying to log in to twitter? According to Help, there is the option of re-setting your password if you’ve forgotten it.

Both. Unfortunately when you go to Twitter help there's no way to contact anyone at Twitter to "chat". It's just fill on the boxes with rote answers and when I click on forgot password the next thing they ask you is what's your username and if you don't have your username then they want your password! So there doesn't seem to be any help for someone who can't remember you password and your username. It's very frustrating that they don't have any real "customer service support".

It looks like first you have to get into your account, with your email address and password. Once you’re in, you work on getting back a username.
I’m sure I had to do this many times because I didn’t use my twitter account at all for years after I created it. And at first I used my work email because they decided we should have twitter accounts for work, but now I use my personal email address.
I just stay signed in all the time now, so I have no idea what my password is. I hope I have it written down somewhere!

I got into a verification process with them once and got stymied because it needed a text account from me. I don’t have a smartphone, I can’t receive texts. I finally ended up having to use a friends! Twitter is most unhelpful.
The only other thing I can suggest is to get a new email on gmail and start over. 🤷🏻♀️
