I just looked it up - she’s 39 years old, and she’s playing the mother of a teenager. There’s nothing shocking about that! She’s actually 6 years older than Jesse Plemons, and 6 years younger than Benedict. I don’t remember what the age difference between the Burbank brothers was supposed to be.

Yes but Kodi Smit-McPhee is a not a teenager. He is a 25 years old. She was a 14 years old when he born (by the way that’s exactly the number of years Jennifer Jason Leigh is older than BC but in Patrick Melrose she mostly played the mother of his 8 years old version and the production was still criticized). That’s the kind of casting is frequently called sexist.
Now it’s completely understandable why they didn’t hire a real teenager but usually people aren’t so tolerant to explanations. In other words, it’s great that it’s Jane Campion behind the camera!
Jesse Plemons is playing older. He supposedly is playing a 39 years old man. BC’s character is one or two years older in the book but BC is actually 13 years older than him so he could be his father (in the same way that Dunst could be Smit-McPhee’s mother, of course!Lol). The thing is he like Kodi looks the age of the character! 😬

KS-M will always look like he’s 12 years old, I think, even though he’s tall.
Even if he did play a 25-year-old, it’s still possible for a 39-year-old to be his mother. Way back then, girls married very young.
My grandmother was born in 1909, and she had her first baby, my mother, in 1938. I remember her telling me that back then no one thought that someone that old (28) would get married and have children. (She told me this when I was 18 to reassure me that it was ok that I still wasn’t married. Ha!)

Yes, of course! But I was talking about the illogical reactions of some on Twitter. I’m sure it would be different if a male filmmaker was behind the camera… or maybe if Smit-McPhee were more famous. The first time I saw him in something was Dolemite is My Name, another Netflix movie. He was playing a young cinematographer graduate and he looked in his twenties. Yes, thin and frail but not a teenager. After his casting in TPOTD, I watched Slow West, he was much younger there, a proper teenager; it’s a great film. Dolemite is also very good and funny.

I like David Poland but the Jurassic Park comment is very silly! Especially now that more cultured people (than him…and me!) identified the melody!

The comments on the trailer on youtube are, generally, terrible, about mcu, someone spoiling it, the music from JP, ...
I think I used to follow David Poland but perhaps with an old account.

I don’t even remember the Jurassic Park theme! Lol I remember The Piano music and The List of Schindler. They are from the same year! But not Jurassic Park!

I’ve seen Jurassic Park enough times to hear the music clearly in my head, and I certainly recognize it when I hear it.
