www.vogue.com/article/wes-anderson-the-wonderful-story-of-henry-sugar-interview-venice-film-festivalWes Anderson normally does that. Not in his house but there are stories about the production renting whole hotel floors so actors and crew could live together and having a good relationship between them. When I read the stories from Asteroid City (Bill Murray was there in the hotel having fun with the others but he got Covid before shooting his scenes so he decided to let the set and the role), I thought it was a shame we wouldn't had stories like that because Covid and the quickly shooting but we have it! EDITED Not Covid stories! I'm glad both BC and BM are OK! Stories about big names getting together and enjoying each other!

Some nice words for BC in this radio interview, by both the presenter ("the great British actor Benedict Cumberbatch..") and Wes Anderson, www.wradio.com.co/programas/la-w-radio/Wes Anderson says they always both wanted to work together and had talked "indirectly" about it so yeah, he was his only and first option for "Henry" role once the script was finished.

That story about staying in Wes Anderson's house reminded me of Meryl Streep talking about the August: Osage County cast all living together in an apartment complex during filming, and making dinner together every night. While BC stayed in a Frank Lloyd Wright-designed hotel downtown instead.

I remembered that, too. But TBF, that time BC was there only for a pair of weeks while the rest of the cast were together during the whole shoot. His role wasn’t so big. He still socialized a lot with Juliette Lewis and the late Misty Upham. And with people in the crew. Also I don’t remember exactly which was his schedule but like always he was doing a lot of stuff at the same time. I remember he flew from one place to another, quickly did the shooting and then was into something else. He went to the Golden Globes or the Emmys around that time. He was nominated to both but it was when no one there knew exactly who and Martin Freeman were! Their very first nominations to American awards.
Meryl Streep was clearly joking when she said the “Frank Lloyd Wright” part of the story like it was something very exclusive compared to them. Of course, a group that includes Streep, Julia Roberts and George Clooney isn’t a humble bunch! I’m sure that a young almost unknown in America actor would be excited to share accommodation with them which I’m sure wasn’t cheap at all. But still, some people thought Streep was seriously accusing BC of being arrogant. You know, he is “posh” so he should be nasty even when again, he supposedly was belittling Hollywood royalty! For what I know, he probably wasn’t even invited to stay with them! Lol Again, he was already a phenomenon in the UK but barely knew in Hollywood and he was a key role in the ensamble but wasn’t a lead role.
EDITED I doubt anyone would suggest that Ben Kingsley or, god forgive us, Film Twitter favorites Dev Patel or Richard Ayoade are “arrogant” for not wanting to stay in Wes Anderson house! (I can imagine Film Twitter making the main group the “villains”, tho) It’s understandable especially for an old man like Kingsley but also for someone who wants to be with their family (like Ayoade. We don’t know Patel excuse but who really cares! He is in his right to do whatever he wants!) and I imagine it was a bigger sacrifice for BC this time that it would had been when he was young and single in 2012.
Pure speculation but remember when BC said to some fans in 2021 that he couldn’t sign autographs and taking photos with them because he wanted to be able of be with his kids and couldn’t do it in quarantine. It was around he was doing Henry Sugar so maybe it was related to his extended stay at Wes Anderson’s house.

The same year AOC came out, 12 Years a Slave came out, too. At the Oscars, Benedict was seated with the 12YAS cast, which made sense because by then, everyone knew that AOC was kind of awful while 12YAS was difficult but amazing. I remember someone interviewing him at the Oscars red carpet, asking him if he was excited for his co-stars’ nominations. He started answering about his 12YAS co-stars when he was corrected, and said yes, he was excited about Meryl Streep’s nomination (and whoever else was nominated from the movie.). Ha! I think that was the time when he attended the Oscars with Karon.
I also remember one of the reasons he didn’t spend as much time with the AOC cast during the shoot - he was taking piano lessons! There was an article somewhere about a local woman who was hired to teach an actor to play a song on the piano for a movie that was filming there. She wasn’t told who he was until he showed up. Fortunately, she was a Sherlock fan and knew who he was (not everybody did!), and was thrilled to be teaching him to play.

Yep and infamously Harvey Weinstein publicly screamed at him at the SAG ceremony because he was with the 12 Years Slave cast (all around his age, by the way! So more in common than with Streep and Roberts) instead of AO people.

Oh, I didn't remember that story about the piano teacher, just the one about the violin teacher from Sherlock.

He’s attacking the role this way and then he’s attacking it that way. I seem to remember Ben saying he likes to give directors as many options as possible. But, in between, you can hear that he’s working on the thing he’s doing next. He’s working on memorizing a play, or some big text that’s going to take a lot of work, so he’s already prepping the other thing. This approach would never work for someone like me. How do you keep your lines straight? I would certainly mix up the scripts if I were memorizing the next project while shooting the first. Fascinating to get an insight into their individual processes.
