No, he is saying that Dr. Strange can work like a normal superhero sequel or like an event film. In both cases is positive for the film itself but, he thinks, if it works like a event it would showcase Marvel strength post-pandemic against the other two studios doing superheroes flicks: Sony and DC. Now, Spider-Man is a Marvel property but the rights are actually owned by Sony so the profits Marvel saw from that movie were basically for permitting them to use Doctor Strange in their movie. It was a Sony hit not Marvel. The other comic book movie that had huge numbers was Batman. Marvel films during the pandemic were Black Widow, Shang-Chi and Eternals. They weren’t bombs but they were affected by the situation so, Dr. Strange is their first post-pandemic movie and that’s why is he wondering how it will work.
EDITED Venon and that new Jared Leto’s superhero/vampire film are also Marvel characters owned by Sony so they aren’t a Marvel Studio products per se. They are Sony movies.

I don't quite understand - is the Forbes saying DS2 is in trouble? I know Forbes is a business magazine/newspaper, so are they saying the Marvel franchise is weaker than they are viewed as by the general public? This seems like a strange viewpoint seeing the very recent BO of that latest Spidermanmovie. And what type of trust should one put in "pre-comments" (whatever those are???)? The naysayers have been itching to see CBMs in general fall from their great height for a few years now. They were all excited when sales & profits were shooting straight up, but of course, they say, they’re not sustainable, hence the doom and gloom narrative. And if a twice Oscar nominated actor should be at the helm of a “failing” movie then they’ll be even more excited. It’s all for clicks and to set people on edge. I’m sure it will do very well financially. My worry is 1) there’ll be too much horror, and 2) too many explosions and zooming around with swooping camera angles. Both those things make me feel nauseous, lol.

I haven't really decided yet if I'll watch DS2.
I really don't like horror movies or CBM (I only was enticed to go see DS because of BC) and Dan despises both (he went with me to see DS but didn't really like it). Add to that we aren't going into a cinema because of the pandemic, so it will have to be on Netflix, Crave or Prime before I'll be able to even make a choice.
On the other hand, I did enjoy the artistry of DS, and I thought SD really understood the character of DS, but SD isn't the director this time out so that counts against the movie for me.
I don't really know SamR. The kinds of movies he does aren't really in my wheelhouse. So I'm unfamiliar with his work.
There is the BC factor, but there are movies of his I have never seen because they just aren't my type - animated stuff and all the LotR Hobbity things, etc. Still, if this sequel has a lot of BC in it... hard to resist!
It's a conundrum for sure.
But I will follow it's progress closely and hope it is massive in BO! Even though I never saw The Grinch I was rooting for it enthusiastically! Hope this one is a BIG hit!

The Grinch is a *wonderful* movie. His voice work in it is soooo good. 🤤
It’s cute and funny, with a sweet message, and pays homage to a number of other great movies, Citizen Kane, Wizard of Oz, etc. It’s worth a watch just to hear his voice, imo.
The only part I found a bit tiresome was Cindy Loo Who in the beginning with her friends, but Mr. Grinch and Mac the dog are hysterical together.

This is so crazy,
Apparently, it also happened here in Mexico. I remember something similar with the last Spider-Man movie and the last Avengers film. It suggests it could be an event movie which would be great. People seems passionated about it but now we have to wait for the reviews so hopefully they are positive and the film hold up beyond the first pair of days.

I just checked and yes, they are selling advance tickets for it. If I wanted to buy them, there are tickets available at my nearest theatre for Thursday May 5, in both IMAX and IMAX 3D.
But it will have to wait!

It seems AMC theaters in the USA also collapsed.
