I want to say another thing but it's a spoiler and the spoiler tag has vanished...? I thought I had commented on the issue with the spoiler tag (I'll check). I took off the plugin from the "Reply" because it was not working right but now there are almost all the same buttons on the "Quick Reply" and there you have a spoiler button that works fine. Anyway if you use the "Reply" you can add a spoiler with [ spoiler]put what you want to spoil here[ /spoiler] without the spaces and you'll get Hello!

So, there are many movies or series with the same or similar premise. We'll have to see what is different about this book.
The first thing I thought about was the series Forever with Ioan Gruffudd because it is rather recent.

Just because it has been announced that Sunny March is producing these movies doesn't mean they will be made right away or that Benedict won't act in other films in the mean time. Unlike the television shows, we are hearing about these projects in the very early stages when the source material has just been purchased. Scripts have to be written, directors and other artists and crew contracted, actors cast, logistical decisions made, etc. It can takes years or even decades to bring a property from the planning stages to the end product. I hope that isn't the case with films, but it's certainly possible.
It seems like actors in films are often not officially listed until very close to the start of filming - sometimes after. Take The Current War as an example. The War Magician was announced first (and it may happen soon. I have no idea), but TCW was filmed first. Benedict's participation was made public fairly early, but the casting of Michael Shannon and some of the other actors was not announced until the last minute. He may be in discussions behind the scenes to star in any number of films that he is not producing.
Television shows seem different, because they are already signed with a network when announced, and production dates either have been or are close to being set.

Mllmass I remember that movie The Two Worlds of Jennie Logan. I think I have an old copy in VHS. Loved it! It was romantic story with Marc Singer and Lindsay Wagner. Halloween night maybe 1979.

Yes, it seems this is not an immediate project like Melrose (which we know it's being adapting since a few years ago) and maybe The Child in Time (although we haven't hear anything more about the supposedly March shooting so who knows!). The news is that he bought the rights and StudioCanal will finance it. About the "great" directors, the fact that he is producing doesn't mean he won't work with great directors. He actually can hire them now. That's what people like Brad Pitt are doing with his production company. We don't know who will direct this or a few of his other projects. I mean, I don't know this author but he is adapting one of his books for Alfonso Cuaron. Maybe someone like him could like the material and do this movie. More quotes by the writer (he is really excited with BC's participation): www.theguardian.com/books/booksblog/2017/mar/14/london-book-fair-new-peter-carey-and-benedict-cumberbatch-snaps-up-matt-haigIt sounds like he will write the script...or maybe just receiving a co-producing title.

I know it is just speculation but isn't there still a possibility that in any of these new projects there might be some interesting directors coming on board? Or are we just assuming no one of any real talent will be recruited. After all, for most of them I haven't heard any specific names as of yet.
Further more where does this idea come from that they won't want to work with BC? I think that is limiting his possibilities by exclusion a bit too quickly.
Personally I think working with newer talent can be just as rewarding as working with some more established ones. After all, I like what SD did with DS and he had never done a film in that genre before. And I would count Alfonso Gomez-Rejon as someone who is a talented director who shows exciting promise and is fresh enough to offer something different on screen.
Sometimes it is really good to think out of the same-old-same-old box. I seem to recall BC saying that he wanted to promote new ideas and people through Sunnymarch and focus on things that wouldn't necessarily be made by others. Perhaps he is dedicated to this ideal and wants to see his production company become known for this approach. What would be so wrong with that?
I don't really care if BC works with specific "known" directors (and I certainly don't think he career needs it). I just want to see him do interesting projects, that are crafted by dedicated people who have a passion for the same things he does. They can be complete unknowns or well established directors - what does that matter if they produce quality work that allows him to display the skills of his craft and natural talents?
Isn't that the endgame after all?
:-))

Didn't BC once mention wanting to direct? Who knows, maybe someday he will do that too. Lots of "time" and "family" themes in his upcoming projects. It's good he will be calling the shots with his own company; hopefully he can stay closer to home and space the projects as needed for a reasonable schedule. The new baby might even be here by now. This premise reminds me of the Benjamin Button movie with Brad Pitt. And it sounds romantic, I know a lot of BC fans have waited a long time for him to star in a romance!

I thought of it, too. And I also liked it, even though it reminded me of both The Time-Traveler's Wife (jumping through time naked), and of New Amsterdam, a tv show about a man who's been alive for hundreds of years (which I loved for the short time it was on) who solves crimes.
I hope How to Stop Time will find something new and original to do, because it seems that we've seen it all before.

How lucky you are to have it on VHS! I don't think I've seen it since it first aired. I asked my sister today if she remembered it, and she didn't. But I do remember watching it alone, which would have been a bit unusual with only one tv in the house at the time. We usually had to watch whatever my father chose, although he sometimes got outvoted by me and my sister and my mother so that we were able to watch Charlie's Angels instead of Mannix!

I really disagree with this statement, which seems to puts a very negative spin on the news that he is finally developing the clout to develop his own material now. There isn't any downside to this as far as I am concerned. I haven't seen one credible source indicate that BC is starved for offers. Not one. It may be that his own focus is turned towards establishing Sunnymarch as a player in the film/TV scene, and staying close to home - and other offers just don't fufill those requirements at the moment. :-)) Well, this is what a forum is for, isn't it? To discuss the ideas we don't necessarily agree about. And just because I voice my doubts doesn't mean I am putting "very negative spin" on B. projects. I don't think BC is starved for offers, I don't doubt he receives many. The question is, whether the offers which are coming are interesting enough for him to accept them. We know that he doesn't hesitate to even drop from a project if he isn't convinced by it - we saw the example with the Crimson Peak, and how right we was to take this decision. He himself said in one of the interviews that after STiD he was getting loads of offers for roles of you standard Hollywood villain, but he wasn't interested in them. And this is my point: since TIG, filmed in 2013, he hasn't been in any really interesting prestigous project offered to him (= great director, Oscar potential movie). Sure, now he is filming CW, but still I've got an impression that for a man of his unique potential and talent he is criminally under-used. I admire him for creating his own space and his own projects, I am sure he wants to find work near home just now, as well. But this is the 4th announcement (Rogue Male, War Magician, Melrose, How To Stop Time) coming "from" him while there are no announcements coming "to" him.
