Awards are certainly just a "bonus", the main thing is seeing him doing worthy project and he certainly is doing it. I am probably not expressing myself clearly, trying to voice a vague dissatisfaction that he still doesn't have as many sparkling projects as I would like to see him in. I was super-excited about TIG and I guess I would like to live a similar excitement again. He stayed in Hollywood for nearly 6 months after finishing TIG and yet nothing emerged, other than fantomatic Lost City of Z. Black Mass, frankly, looked like a filler, when nothing more interesting came up. I absolutely loved THC and to see him play Richard has always been my dream, I loved Hamlet, I even ended loving doctor Strange, lol, but somehow this lingering longing for a new TIG-like projects stays with me. I am sure he will be excellent as Edison, but on the whole I am not particularly intrigued by the film.

Hmmm, I don't remember him being in Hollywood for six months - or much at all - after filming TIG. In fact, I recall him being in London most of the time. He did go to some Comic Con and sporting events around the world. He was attached to several interesting sounding movies during this period, but dropped out for various reasons. He has been working non-stop since before the release of TIG.
When an actor is starring in a franchise that takes 6 months to film and then more time to promote, plus an established series that takes months to film, his time is limited.

I do understand how you feel Miriel but it looks as though he has a game plan in mind. Still it really could be worse. I'm also a fan of Viggo Mortensen and he is so incredibly picky and esoteric in his movie choices that I hardly ever see him in anything 😆

Still like to see him in something new when it happens, though. Well, BC certainly doesn't look like someone waiting for things to happen: if they don't happen, he makes them. And of course, being a man, he has more time than his female collegues. But he said clearly that he wanted to do a romantic comedy. Will someone offer him a quality role in this film genre before he turns 50, please?

He has said he wanted to all sorts of types of films including the "Melrose" books, which he is finally doing. Sometimes these things just take time. And he could certainly do a romantic comedy after he was fifty and I would be just as interested in seeing it.

Miriel said: So this is more about you and your longings, rather than the actual films that he is chosing.
See, I find The Current War incredibly exciting and really love the director of this project so I don't see any problem or concerns with that choice at all and I think it hold some exciting promise as well from "offical" recognition.
I also think the other projects that he is interested in are more promising than most of the premises out and about at this point in time for other movies, so I think he has made some really solid choices in those. And since no announcements have been made as to who else is involved I don't see any point worrying about that sort of thing before they solidify.
Everything seems "sparkling" enough to me. And the excitement of him seeing Sunnymarch come into its own and become a force on the movie scene is also very "sparkling" to me as well. That is where the true power lies and he is smart to move on this at this point in time.
Also I would like to point out that his "networking skills" seem especially astute. Sunnymarch is aligned with some power players - Foxlight Film, BBC, Showtime, Studiocanal... these are outfits that get films made and distribution done on an international basis. That is a big feather in Sunnymarch's cap. They are also organisations that put a stress on quality projects. What more could one ask for?

I know ya'll are being somewhat hyperbolic about the "by the time he's fifty" wish, but Good Lord, he's only forty!

My first thought was that his choices will now revolve around keeping him close to home - at least until his children are in school all day. So that's 5 years, or longer if they have more children. And it does seem like the announced projects will take him that long. I hope he can squeeze in a little Sherlock when the time comes!
He has said many times that he loved going with his mother to her acting jobs, so I'm sure when his children get older, he and Sophie will take them along when they have to travel for work.
