I'm sure there was a risk assessment done and all things considered it probably was a great bit of positive public relations for the Royal Navy and a moral board for the submarines too!
I put it on the same level as doing air shows for the air force but with waaaaay less public safety concerns.

I put it on the same level as doing air shows for the air force but with waaaaay less public safety concerns. Yes, that’s the way I saw it, too. The premise of the series is that the celebrities are always in danger and risking their lives with every stunt. But in reality, no celebrity would agree to be on the show if there was really any risk at all. I figured the Royal Navy agreed to do it because it was good publicity for them, they were available and in the area anyway, and the show probably paid or donated a lot of money to them. It was just another job for the Royal Navy.

Everyone has a political agenda and it's easy for them to zero in on a public figure to push their message. Frankly, this went up the chain of command for approval, so it wouldn't have been approved if there was any risk involved. The military are using the celeb clout to increase recruitment. It's a nothingburger to me. *shrug*
Edit: I somehow missed a bunch of the comments but see now that you've all already said the same thing, lol

Yeah. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it. But I knew there would be complaints.

Lol. It’s National Geographic not Big Brother! Anyway, here is a National Geographic documentary about a nuclear submarine,
And another,
Actually, there are a good number of results if you Google it!

I’m watching Bradley Cooper’s episode and it is MUCH more strenuous than Ben’s. He’s done a grappling hook crawl across a 100 foot canyon, used the tiniest ladder to scale a sheer cliff (twice), slept on a minuscule platform hung halfway down the side of a cliff, rappelled, got snowed on, and the worst part so far was they came across a dead deer, a mountain lion kill, and Bear broke the jaw open and cut out the tongue which they boiled up for dinner. Completely GROSS! Ben had it easy, lol.

A dead animal?! TBH I don’t know anything about surviving in the nature but I have watched a lot of films! 😉 And Sean Penn (Into the Wild) taught me that you should act quickly after killing an animal for food because the meat discomposes very fast.

See, that’s what I thought, too! I was like how long has that animal been there? Mountain lion kills can lay around for a week or so until they finish it off. Yikes! Ptomaine poisoning, botulism, or something. (Although it was cold enough to snow so maybe it was like being in a refrigerator?)

He’s done a grappling hook crawl across a 100 foot canyon He took it like a champ, no? So calm. That platform they slept on was the bit I was most struck by. What if one of them rolled off the side? People do move in their sleep. I wanna say that they didn't actually sleep there all night, but only sat on it long enough to get the shots. Too cynical? you should act quickly after killing an animal for food because the meat discomposes very fast. I was like how long has that animal been there? The dead animals they "find" are production plants. I remember some big fuss about this years ago ("how real is the show?") and this was one of the things that came about from the discussion. They can't eat anything that isn't safe, so productions sets it up for them to find.

Yes, @jbc, he took it like a champ! His athleticism was very impressive. I’m sure they were hooked into a rope on that sleeping platform but yeah, scary! Made me want to vomit, lol. Regarding the dead animal, I don’t care if it was already dead. I did NOT want to see Bear cracking/ripping open that jaw . That was too much for me. Ew!
