Before my review, which I’ll get to eventually, I wanted to point out the actors I recognized from other things!
Of course, there’s Jodie Comer and Benedict, and I knew that Katherine Waterston was in it - she was in The Current War. And Mark Strong was in The Imitation Game and other things. He plays the husband’s father. The husband’s mother is played by the actress from Love, Actually. And the lady who runs the commune is played by the actress from Notting Hill.
All my movie references are either Benedict movies or British romcoms! Ha!

People think you have to explain the disaster? Or make a gigantic tsunami?
I wish they had made it like a dream/poem not explaining anything. Haha. All done through images, very little talking, like in the trailer.
(I didn't read the book)
I need a spoiler to the ending.

I mean is it really a movie if you don’t have a gigantic action sequence with lots of disaster porn? Let’s ask Scorsese. 😂

That Erik Childress person is an idiot! I looked up some others of his tweets, and he hates and complains about everything. And he sounds proud of it, so he must be known for being a jerk.
Anyway, it doesn’t sound like he watched the movie at all - or, if he did, didn’t pay much attention to it. Jodie Comer’s character certainly had a lot to do, but as was mentioned already, it didn’t include giant violent action scenes, so I guess nothing happens (just like in TPOTD - nothing happened because there was no shooting or violence).
Her character married into a close, loving, caring family - something she explains that she was looking for and was missing from her life. They weren’t weak! What a horrible thing for him to say.
Also, if he stuck around for the Q&A afterwards, the director talked about the decision she made not to dwell on the flooding/environmental disaster because they certainly had no solution to offer. It was just there. They made the story personal, and we experience it with the main character.
And once again, the director did not want the story to come across as a weak woman waiting to be rescued by a strong man! That was the point!
