I don't understand awarding The Zone of Interest as both best British and best foreign language. Why don't spread a little the awards? Moreover, why wasn't it nominated as best picture?
I love that Saltburn didn't get anything, I hope that all its nominations were a jury thing. Also Barbie but for different reasons. I'm ok with Nolan winning. I like that they voted for Cillian Murphy.

I would have liked Anatomy of a Fall to get more recognition.
And why not Society of Snow for Best Foreign Language film?

I haven’t seen any of those movies, but I’m happy with those Bafta winners!

Has anyone seen Poor Things? I think it looks fascinating. Walter Shaw gave it an excellent review.

I've seen Oppenheimer and Anatomy of a Fall. Zone of Interest and Poor Things are two others that I will try to see when I get a chance.
I still think it was a travesty that Society of Snow wasn't up for more awards. As good as Oppenheimer was (and I was very entertained) it couldn't hold a candle to SoS.

I never watch award shows. I just read about the winners afterwards 😀. For the most part I think the BAFTA’s went with the right choices. I haven’t seen Zone of Interest, Saltburn or Poor Things. Saltburn seems to be a lot of hype over substance. Emma Stone, by most accounts, deserves her win. As for Cillian Murphy, as a fellow Irish person I should be rooting for him 😀. And I DO think he was excellent in Oppenheimer …… but Paul Giamatti was also brilliant in The Holdovers. I just can’t pick one over the other.

I forgot The Holdovers. I'll probably try and see that one as well. I loved Paul G. in Billions!

I forgot The Holdovers. I'll probably try and see that one as well. I loved Paul G. in Billions! It’s a lovely film RP. Great performances from the three leads. Very different to Oppenheimer obviously. Which is one of the reasons I’m ambivalent about acting awards. I mean how do you really judge? PG and CM are both fabulous but in very different roles. I think the only fair way is to have a lot of actors play the same role and then judge who did it best. A sort of acting Olympics. 😂

I haven’t watched Oppenheimer. I am not a fan of Nolan. He takes himself too seriously! Even when doing silly comic book flicks! lol
I think Paul Giamatti was wonderful in The Holdovers, tho. He probably had against him that a) it’s a comedy and not a supposedly “serious” bio (that made a lot of money!) and b) that he is an American although I don’t forget they decided to award Will Smith over the much more acclaimed local boy! lol But probably the politics were slightly different there (Smith is a big star but more important for them, they were already being criticized for all the years ignoring black actors. So now, the disgraced Smith has a BAFTA while Denzel Washington has never been nominated for the silly award. Not even once!). More perplexing is that last year Colin Farrell lost to Austin Butler! Maybe it was just the old BAFTA trying to guess the Oscar and thinking they would go for the young actor in a musical bio again.
Anyway, I know that Farrell and Murphy are Irish not British but they are “neighbors” and with a career in the local national industry. I’m glad they went for the *almost* local this time but yeah, Giamatti was great. He would had been a much more better winner than both Smith and Butler IMHO.

SAG Oppenheimer wins best cast, Cillian Murphy best actor, RDJ supporting. So I think that races are over. Da'Vine Joy Randolph won supporting actress for The Holdovers as it was predicted. The only open race is best actress. Emma Stone vs Lily Gladstone.
EDIT: I had written Jones (??) instead of Da'Vine Joy Randolph.
