I haven’t watched it but I read a very negative review in the USA Today (it catched my eye because it was 1 star out of 4!) then I saw it had a bad rating on RT (which obviously it’s not something trustworthy per se).
It sounded like an Emmy show!

Well we finished it and found the ending weak. Still, it was entertaining enough throughout to keep us watching.
But worthy of an Emmy? Not really.
Baby Reindeer was FAR superior! In every respect.

I don't know why is he comparing these shows with one of last year.
Why isn't he comparing Eric with Baby Reindeer, or Ripley, or the mini-series which are supposedly already in contention.
What he says of Patrick Melrose is almost nothing and his insistance with BC's (women) fans is annoying.

Sorry, it sounded like it could win some Emmys! lol Maybe I'm just not reading that article correctly but I thought the writer said "A Man in Full" wasn't worthy of any Emmys (and expressed surprise at this conclusion because of the acting and writing creds).

Are you talking about the IndieWire article, Magda? I think he is trying to compare a strongly publicized for awards Netflix’s May title from 5 years ago to this year supposedly more award friendly month titles. He is kinda being sardonic but TBH, I don’t think that When They See Us is that good. I think DuVernay is a talented filmmaker, at least visually, but her scripts are too simplistic and shallow. They are all about good guys vs bad racist monsters. There is not complexity! And I couldn’t finished When They See Us because that. The early scene in which a bunch of black kids are, well, harassing random people in the Park is presented as some innocent activity so white victims who moaned about it are evil or at least silly prejudiced idiots who stupidly felt threaten (thats why some of them were arrested in the first place) Then compare that to what Jim Sheridan did in In The Name of My Father: Daniel Day Lewis was a dumb kid doing also illegal stupid acts (trespassing and stealing to hookers) which were equally bad like mobbing and harrasing random people in Central Park, but in no way was comparable to being a murderous terrorist or a violent rapist. Imagine the producers having that moral clarity instead of not trusting their public to see that even with their youthful stupid sins, they didn’t deserved to be accused of something so actually evil like violently raping a woman or killing people! Imagine the complexity and maturity! Well, they actually are in trouble because that, www.reuters.com/legal/government/column-central-park-five-defamation-decision-judge-puts-facts-before-artistic-2023-09-21/I am always pro fiction versions but it didn’t helped that producers were vocally accusing the ex fiscal of being a racist in real life. That’s not mentioned in the article. Nor that social media wanted to lynch her because they were 100% convinced that she was the racist cartoon of the series. Probably, the case would hadn’t processed if they weren’t so obvious with their agenda. What if the character motivations were really about finding justice for sexual victims but she was so overzealous that she didn’t, maybe, noticed her prejudices against those actual innocent men? What if it were something complex? In other words, I hope Eric is much better and doesn’t end with a legal case because the stupidity and frivolity of the producers of the series!

Look at all the brouhaha surrounding Baby Reindeer now.
With that woman claiming it was about her (and of course she claims she did nothing wrong!).
I guess when you do anything creative you run the risk of running into controversy and even litigation.
But of course first it has to be a success! Or people won't care about suing!
