On GoldDerby the people who updated their predictions already include Baby Reindeer and Gadd. On AW they consider that the Limited Series category and lead actor here are completed. And, Netflix is going to push Baby Reindeer.

Look at the numbers! Also, I think they started watching it in Asia so I think it'll remain in the top 10 next week. From that article from the what's on netflix guy. He has no clue. Some people are so weird! They've been chasing Martha and Darrien real life persons and throwing names around so other may harass them. "Martha" had obviously mental health issues, was condemned, served time and was released. Why are these people trying to out her? In the case of "Darrien" they started to accuse people just because they ressembled the actor who played him. Gadd had to ask on instagram to stop speculating and that the guy isn't Darrien.

I really don’t want to defend the What’s on Netflix guy. He clearly was wrong about the title and the key art but TBF I really think that this was a surprising hit for Netflix. I don’t think the marketing was great and, more important, it was scarcely. It doesn’t compare to what they tried to do with Ripley which was released the week before. AS and company were in talk shows and did a lot of press before it was streamed. The press for this one began after it become a hit.
It supposedly has 100% RT rating but this is in big part because it wasn’t widely reviewed when it was released!

This reminds me of what happened when The Queen’s Gambit came out. I watched it and loved it and figured that no one else was watching it. But then it caught on and became a phenomenon - much to Netflix’s surprise! A show about a girl playing chess! Even our local news went on and on about it, because one scene was filmed right here in my city (yes, we have areas that look like the 1950’s).
Many years ago, before we had Netflix here in Canada, I remember reading about people who watched movies and shows for Netflix and decided how to market them. They decided who would want to see them, and assign descriptions to aim the shows to the audience who would like them. I may be wrong, but I don’t think they were even paid. They just worked from home and had opinions. I think they were like those “reviewers” who took over IMDB before they shut down the forums.
I think that Netflix might have the wrong people determining how to promote new shows, because they can be way off.

Apparently, yes, the Queen’s Gambit was a huge surprise at the time and supposedly Netflix didn’t have too much faith on it. It was released without any fanfare at all. I’m not sure Baby Reindeer has achieved still that level of success but we will see it in the next weeks, I guess.
I also kinda remember that The Squid Game also seemed to came from nowhere but the genre is pretty different in that case and the surprise was mainly that people over the world, including Americans, were embracing a Korean speaking designed for Koreans show. But yeah, it was a more populist genre.

We watched the first 2 episodes today of Baby Reindeer and we were impressed.
Very intense and yet ordinary aspect of Gadd's life is emphasized I thought. It gives it an almost "everyman" quality and yet there is very definitely an "other world" vibe about it too.
I look forward to seeing the rest.

Just one more episode to go and I am stunned by how terrifying and engrossing this series is.
Dan said he was blown away by how original it is. He's never seen anything like it before. And he said it's so tension filled that it is almost exhausting watching it.
But it's also mesmerizing, so it compels you to keep watching!
Tomorrow we'll finish it off. Brilliant!

The intensity of baby reindeer is truly captivating, I totally agree. It grabs you completely in it and makes you sit on the edge of your seat. It is an amazing show that represents complexities of life very beautifully.

Finished the series off and it was very impressive, I must say.
Kudos to Netflix for supporting programming that most commercial networks wouldn't touch.
K It wasn't neatly wrapped up with a bow, the protagonist was a deeply flawed character and you may be left scratching your head and pondering the wider meaning of yhe series when it's done.
Again, not something most companies would back.
Too often people want formula because it's comforting and reassuring. Not this one! But it stays with you for a long time after and gets you pondering.
I really like that!
