The shot of him, older, in the green shirt at the end. Does anyone else think he’s got fake cheeks on? This will take science eyes, ladies! They just look much thicker to me.

Trailer breakdown based in the books (if fanboys do it with superhero movies why I can’t doing with this!): First shot: seems to be Patrick with his young family and the beautiful house in France. Surely from book 4, Mother’s Milk or the early 2000’s episode. Then we see David Melrose aka Hugo Weaving in the same location. Most probably that image is from Never Mind (during the 60’s). It could also be a flashback. There are flashbacks or at least mentions of his character in all the books with the exception of Mother’s Milk.
Immediately we see Jennifer Jason Leigh as Eleanor Melrose. Again it should be Never Mind and the setting is France during the sixties. Then we see Patrick drinking from a wine bottle. That’s scene should be obviously from his alcoholic years so Mother’s Milk probably in the France house or maybe in one of his American family houses in the USA. Then we see him smoking in a hospital bed. This scene is interesting because his suicide attempts are one in a flashback when he is in his twenties and tried to kill himself with an overdose and later just implied but not explicitly described when it’s mentioned (also in flashbacks) he spent some time in a Suicide Observation Room and with a Depression Group. The scenes in the trailer are clearly from this period. There are some comments on Twitter saying he looks very young in those and speculating it is young Patrick but if they follow the books, he is actually “old” Patrick from At Last, the very last book. The location is London in the late 2000’s The same with the next scene with him “describing” himself to a woman (probably a very young girl he felt attracted that he met in the hospital but he recognized she is even more auto destructive than him and he would die if he follows her; there is also a similar dialogue in which he auto diagnose himself to a therapist) and the dramatic scene on the stretcher (not in the book). It seems to me they will expand this part of the book. Then he is talking with someone on the phone. I suspect he is in America again during early 2000’s in the Mother’s Milk adaptation. And finally there is the scene with Prasanna Puwanarajah. That’s Some Hope. They are in London during the 90s. The dialogue is from the book (although I think they are talking on the phone in it, not face to face). Agreed?

Random thought: I’m glad BC is not imitating Edward St Aubyn here! He tends to imitate the way real life people’s talk when he plays them even when they aren’t very recognizable. I remember Alexander Master wrote a piece in The Guardian saying he wasn’t happy with the slightly feminine BC’s accent in the movie when he played him just to be tell by everybody that he knew that he totally sounded like that!
Then it’s his role in Black Mass! When they announced he would play the part, I watched a small video with the real guy and thought he sounded very funny and hoped he didn’t imitate him! Well he did and then we had people who knew the real guy acclaimed him meanwhile others saying how awful he sounded trying to do the Boston accent! One linguist said he did one of the best accent in the movie but again he knew the real guy; The Boston Globe critic made fun of his accent but also put a note saying a friend of him who actually knew the guy swear BC actually sounded exactly like him!
The question is it is really necessary to do a 100% accurate work when very few people can appreciate it? When some would see the detailed performance as flawed because most people are not familiar with the details?
Patrick is not a real life character but it’s an alter ego of St Aubyn who ALSO speaks in a funny way! He really is super “posh” and I can imagine people saying BC was exaggerating the accent if he tried to do it so yes, I’m glad he doesn’t!

I'm not sure that he deliberately tries to sound exactly like real-life people. I think he's just naturally a good mimic. I think he does try to get certain accents right so that people don't complain too much, but otherwise I think it's just him being him. Listen to any interview where he's quoting somebody else, and he automatically does their voices. I don't think he even realizes he's doing it. He's done it when quoting Harvey Weinstein and even Meryl Streep!

I think he prepares himself for the roles so I don’t think it’s accidental or something he does without thinking like when he randomly imitate someone during an interview.

I was thinking how "Sherlockian" some of this video bits looks without context: He presents himselfs with auto diagnosed mental conditions with the difference that with Patrick Melrose it is the real deal. He is ACTUALLY in a psychiatric hospital after all! But also with him offending people. The thing is that if you see the context of the scenes, those people really deserved it and even when his character is not a saint he is probably reacting as any frustrated normal people would do in those situations: the waiter in Showtime trailer, is extremely nosy when he is trying to tell the most personal and painful thing about himself and his tragedy and the person who he calls "bad man pretending being an idiot" is indeed one of the vilest type of men that exist in this world: false prophets who cheat old sick and vulnerable old people to steal their money.

I see what you are saying but I didn't get that kind of vibe from the trailer particularly.
Nothing about PM reminds me of Sherlock in any way. He seem so neurotic in those bits, so seeking approval that he just seems the polar opposite to Holmes, to me (and I haven't read the books so I am only judging him on the trailers).
Also within the context of the trailer I think the character of Patrick is shown to be someone who desperate to find himself and that doesn't seem Holmes like either.
I am really looking forward to learning more about Patrick as a character - I think BC is someone who knows the character well enough to make sure that his personality is presented true to the intent of the author of the books. Especially since he is also an executive producer of the series.

Another ad. I haven't watched it complete but I don't think it has new scenes:

I might be wrong, but the scene where he and the woman in the dark short hair are about to kiss, isn’t that a new one?
