Thanks for posting all of the tweets! The Showtime trailer is fabulous! I’m so excited. I’m a little confused about one thing: several tweets said that Blythe Danner plays Patrick’s mother when she’s older, but she’s listed on IMDb as playing his aunt. Judging from the brief clip, I think the tweeters got it wrong. Yes, I think they got it wrong. At least she is playing both characters, which would be weird, but it’s clear she is playing Nancy in the clip. The trailer suggests the adaptation is very faithful to the books. I like that they included the nosy waiter. The scene is so funny and silly but the context is tragic and painful. In some ways it encapsulates the books. I laughed out loud at the end when Patrick finally could tell to another human being that he was raped by his own father for years but he sees the waiter and apologizes for screaming at him minutes earlier and then Johnny ask Patrick if he could be capable to forgive him (his father) and the waiter says, “of course, I forgive him!”. Later Patrick answers, “I don’t know but if that ridiculous waiter forgave me anything could happen”.

The scene with the waiter is one of my favorites in the books, too.

BC isn't on Twitter, so I wonder who posted that fateful tweet that led to him getting the part? I remember reading years ago that he wanted to play PM.

He said it on that Reddit event to promote The Fifth Estate in 2013 then a year later in a Q&A for The Imitation Game but probably he was already attached by then. I remember it was mentioned in an article about Edward St Aubyn that he and Sam Mendes were involve in the adaptations.
It was a long process! I remember there were articles about David Nicholls adapting it since 2012 or 2013. It seems Rachel Horovitz, who is married to her “co-producer” Michael Jackson, was the one who bought the rights and was interested in adapting them. At the beginning the articles talked of adapting just the early novels. Maybe because the Mother’s Milk movie was very recent.

Well, at least they don’t try to do entire reviews based in trailers as a few sites sometime try to do with normally more popular stuff. Anyway it’s funny! Just read this: segmentnext.com/2018/01/12/25-best-tv-shows-2018-add-watchlist/It’s so factually based in official stuff that’s wrong! Yes, it’s it’s a five episode miniseries following the character Patrick Melrose, played by BC, based on the novels by St. Aubyn but “playboy” is a questionable word the pr team is using to sell the series, I guess, and it’s not about “a strict childhood”! Yes, Hugo Weaving’s character seems to be strict but as the trailers clearly suggests but not explicitly say, it’s something MUCH more worst than just be strict. And, at least in the books, he describes himself as “a narcissistic, suicidal alcoholic” or something similar to a therapist but as plausible explanations about why he has been self-medicating himself.
