I agree on all of this. I've seen lots of raves about Thanos and DS, but honestly I thought Scarlet Witch was a real highlight. Also Gamora. Of course DS was great, I liked his magical fighting style (cloning himself, beaming opponents - or parts of them - through his fire portals, etc.) as opposed to the usual punching and explosions. I also liked Starlord, but a lot of people seem to be complaining about him. There was one scene with Gamora where his wise cracking ruined a serious moment, unfortunately. They seemed to rein in Hulk just so he can overcome his mental block in the next film, probably in the nick or time and with great fanfare, but there wasn't for him to do here. Not surprisingly it was overstuffed with characters! I liked the scene where DS, Iron Man and Spiderman were fighting the GOTG not realizing they were on the same side.

I was really touched by Thor’s tearful bravado before he goes off to restart that star (also an awesome scene). Hemsworth has really grown as an actor, to portray all those conflicting emotions so well. Good work, but I won’t hear bad things about Thor. 😍
I also really loved DS’s fighting style and how he transformed a black hole into a flood of butterflies. The images were really amazing, but I did think it had too many things going on. I know they had to pack all those heroes into it, but imo it created a difficulty in emotional investment with the audience.
Starlord is getting flack for attacking Thanos instead of helping them get the gauntlet off of him, that he let his rage get the better over his mind. I thought it was pretty in character.

I think the issue with Starlord attacking Thanos is partly that every romance in the MCU is poorly developed, so a very human reaction just got an eye-roll from me. Gamora & Starlord is of course better than Vision/Scarlet Witch and Hulk/Black Widow (ugh) but it's still not all that interesting. MCU falls into the same trap as 90% of all movie/TV franchises where we're just supposed to accept a (heterosexual) romance happening even if there's no chemistry or build-up. Like Vision and Wanda are this super committed couple, yeah ok, since when? Those two and Gamora/Starlord basically had the exact same romantic arc in the film ("will s/he be able to sacrifice his/her lover for the greater good?") I'm just really tired of romances being shoe-horned in for no reason, it's like they have some quota of romance that just must be filled in every movie even if it makes no sense and they have no idea what story to tell with them. I actually didn't like Scarlet Witch much at all in this film which disappointed me, she suffered from the recycled storyline. She was badass in the final 10 minutes though!

It's annoying to me that almost every female has to also be a love interest for one of the guy heroes. I agree, Thor was great! I liked Ragnarok but didn't care for how he was portrayed like an unconfident, bumbling goofball, comic relief. He's a god for crying out loud! My favorite part of the whole film was seeing DS in the floating, cross-legged pose. I was surprised at the lack of reaction by the other characters, when half of them turned to dust. Expected at least a "nooooo" or two, or horror, or shock, or something. BC would have handled that better, if he hadn't been one of the disappearing ones. Spiderman was really the only one treated like any big deal. My audience didn't really laugh at the jokes, except a few from Iron Man.

I finally saw it yesterday! A friend came with me, but she had an emergency come up so she arrived late and missed the first part. She told me that she enjoyed what she did see, but I told her that what she missed was pretty much more of the same.
I was once again surprised to see so many families in the audience! I know it was a matinee, but bringing very young children to a movie that was mostly loud violence? And I should specify that they were young boys, not girls - maybe 4 or 5 years old. I just don't get their thinking!
As someone else already mentioned, the audience didn't really laugh at the funny parts. I didn't even notice it until there was a line that had me, and many others, actually laughing out loud. But I wasn't expecting a hilarious comedy, and I did still enjoy the lighter parts of the movie.
After watching a thousand interviews with the cast, it was nice to see those familiar faces in character on the big screen! I'm still unsure of who they were playing, but I think I managed to follow along anyway. I was surprised to see so many of them paired off into couples. I had no idea that superhero movies had so much romance!
Other than Doctor Strange and Thor Ragnarok, I haven't seen any of the movies leading up to this. It was certainly a lot better than the little bit of Guardians of the Galaxy that I was able to sit through!

It makes me so sad that superhero films of the last 30 years are inappropriate for little kids. They're all, and I mean all, rated PG-13 if not R, and it's not teens and adults who wear Batman backpacks and Spiderman shoes! Children love the characters, even if they never get to see anything with them! I'd love to take my 6YO, but they are all too scary! Even the superhero cartoons on TV are too much. The best I can do is the old Adam West Batman, and the animated Spiderman series, from the 70's.

Nice article about the superheroes “death” at the end of the movie:

Someone on IMDb has posted the amount of screen time each character has in each of the Marvel movies. For Avengers Infinity War, it won't be exact until it's out on video. But they're saying that Thanos is first, at 29 minutes. He's followed by Gamora, Tony Stark/Iron Man, Thor, and then Doctor Strange at 11 minutes 30 seconds. That's not too bad - of all the characters, Doctor Strange is fifth in screen time! www.imdb.com/list/ls066620113/

I have really no interest in going to a two hour plus movie for the sake of seeing the only thing I am interested in on screen for all of 11 minutes! I wait until it pops up on Netflix. Or I would assume it will be the Doctor Strange "bits" will be on YouTube sooner or later. That will do nicely too for my purposes! :-))
