PBS just showed Final Problem, and it was so good - even better than I remembered. When it was first on, they showed it in movie theatres, too, which was really exciting. The last 10 minutes are absolutely thrilling, with the violin duet turning into the Sherlock music.
After having seen this episode several times now, I finally figured out something. I always wondered why Moriarty agreed to do all that stuff for Eurus (record messages and make videos she later used to torture Sherlock, John and Mycroft), after spending only 5 minutes with her. But I had forgotten that they said that Euros got into the head of anyone who spent any amount of time with her. She had convinced one guard to kill his family and himself, so convincing Moriarty to do stuff would certainly have been possible. He might not even have known why he was doing it.

I know you meant The Final Problem but both The Lying Detective and The Final Problem are fabulous episodes IMO. I loved the musical segue with the violin as well.

Thanks! Yes, of course I meant The Final Problem - I just corrected it. I had stopped to read what I had written last week about The Lying Detective, and I got them mixed up.
I need more Sherlock! I have yet to see another show that even comes close to what Sherlock does.

Hey, I even loved T6T! I thought it was a rollicking adventure - so James Bond-y! That reminds me... I'll have to rewatch that whole season for fun! And tears! Lots of tears!!

I’ve only watched the final problem once while I’ve seen all the other episodes multiple times. Had a bad reaction to it. Probably should give it another go and see if I can get past the cartoonish superpowers of the sister.

Ha! Remember when it first aired? People online flipped out over the scene where Sherlock and John jumped out of the windows when the bomb went off in the apartment. They said it was unrealistic that they would escape unharmed. Watching that episode again, I wonder why those people were ok with all the other stuff that happened, but jumping out of the window wasn’t realistic??

Totally agree with you mllemass. Not only the example you mentioned but honestly, ALL the villains in Sherlock have cartoonish characteristics, so why the singling out of the one in The Final Problem?? Just look at all the cartoonish behaviours of Moriarty throughout the entire series... the "Miss Me?" Campaign for one but also his whole Crown Jewels caper was just too fantastical to be anywhere near realistic, but I didn't hear any moaning about it being OTT back then.
Sherlock was always meant to be beyond the edge in its approach and I really don't see how anything that happened in The Final Problem went beyond the pale in characterizations.

There were maps and diagrams of the bomb and the trajectory of the jumps with lines drawn all over them. Who does that remind you of? 😉
