Funnily there is a similar but much more explicit scene in Narcos:Mexico. It’s very shocking but also over the top! Of course, that’s not a family oriented movie and it has other very violent scenes! A lot of them!

I watched it yesterday. Premise: the book was my favourite when I was a girl, I read it easily three or four times and I hated Disney version, because it made it sweet sweet sweet. I haven't even bothered to see the new one.
I liked it, didn't find it too brutal, but I think it was made for a big screen, a bit Avatar like. Seen in TV the motion capture and the cgi effects are a bit too much visible. So it's really the shame Disney kind of "stole" it, it deserved to have more publicity. Probably more painful for Serkis than for Benedict, but still.

I watched it and I can't believe people finding it too violent. There is much more violence on many of the movies and series shown everyday.
I didn't like much the animals (the panther, the bear, the wolves and the hyena). The tiger was better. They didn't look real to me. Sometimes they looked good and sometimes distortioned.
The rest of the jungle I liked it very much.
The memory I had of The Jungle Book is my grandfather reading it to my siblings and me. I think I was very young (3 or 4 I guess) and I didn't understand much.
I generally liked it. I didn't mind the change from the jungle to the village. It was a bit rushed though. At least it seemed to me that he had just arrived and after being one day harassed by the children the next day he was immediately accepted.
The child actor was awesome.
