Dickens, I think there’s an enormous amount of idealism in young countries, too. So they/we can’t see our past clearly and have unrealistic notions about who we are, our importance, and also we tend to make sweeping generalizations and can be unsubtle. Well, America’s getting a giant dose of big boy/girl pills right now. 🤷🏻♀️ Exactly queenzod, just like the young who think that they know everything. Not to worry, you'll get there and possibly make a better job of things.

The news from this riot gets worse and worse. My first impression was a bunch of drunken yahoos in silly costumes, but these people brought zip tie handcuffs, built a gallows, chanted "kill Mike Pence," injured 50 officers and now a second one has died.

The Washington Post interview with the horns guy really creeped me out because it confirmed something that I suspected since I saw them out there without any kind of masks. They are so sure they are the "good guys" that they didn't bothered to cover their faces! A lot of people are calling the stupid and making jokes but it's something else: in their minds, they weren't committing a crime, they were fighting injustice and even saving little kids (the guy is a Qanon sympathizer). Imagine that, if you are saving innocent little children of their abusers, why you would fear to been identified? Also, what would you do against the "abuser"? Now imagine being in the receiving fury of that "righteous" fury? It's extremely scary!

Also, they thought they were protected by Trump and the other inciters/enablers who couldn't care less about them.

I hope there is some disappointment there. Immediately after the incident, a survey was published and it was shocking to see the number of voters that agreed with the assault! Later, it was clear not just that Trump wouldn't protected them but also there were other details like yesterday's news about the dead Capitol policemen being an ardent but decent Trump follower. He was one of them and died doing his work. It's really sad but hopefully some people change their mind seeing what those people were capable of and how they didn't care who they were hurting.

The videos coming out with these people getting arrested at airports are GLORIOUS! They’re having meltdowns. One guy, held down on the airport floor by several police, said they shouldn’t be doing that to him b/c he isn’t black! And he isn’t the only one saying things like that! That tells you where their heads are at and the amount of racism we’re dealing with.
Yes, this was the worst attack on our govt in over 200 years, and now the Republicans just want to let it go and move on? I don’t think so.
It goes to show how deluded they are that they think they’re in the right. They attempted a violent overthrow of the govt, would possibly have murdered the succession (Pence, Pelosi, Grassley), and held other govt representatives hostage. That second police officer who died committed suicide, but I haven’t been able to find out much about that.
Right now I’m more worried about the inauguration on the 20th. This isn’t over - they’re going to come back & try it again. At least the ones that haven’t been put on the no fly list.

Hawley & Cruz need to go too and the GOP needs to decide what it really stands for and what kind of voters and beliefs it represents.
Because right now, with a few honourable exceptions, it seems GOP representatives are standing behind Trump and the rioters. Their silence speaks volumes.
I don’t know but to me over here in Europe that does not seem to be what the Republican party used to stand for. Ok they were more right wing than the Democrats but they were not the hard right fascists they have become under Trump.

I think they might be expelled once the new Senate is seated. And I think we already know what this current GOP stands for. If they won’t rebuke these insurrectionists then they’re aligned with them and must be defeated altogether. They’re Nazis.

A German political analyst believes that maybe the Republican party (he claimed he knows a lot of members that are against Trump but weren't ready to talk) will divide itself in two parties. A divided Republican party doesn't sound too bad until you remember that one of them would have Trump, QANON, the Proud Boys and the Tea Party as ideologues!
On the other hand, I saw a video of Alex Jones criticizing them! It's kind of hypocritical because he is a despicable human being who practically created the Internet conspiracy theory industry but it's also good to see that even him is ashamed to be linked to those actions. Again hopefully Trump followers, including extremists, would change of mind with more details emerging about the assault.

I have to believe that Alex Jones decrying the actions of those involved in the recent insurrection events is just a ruse made as a matter of limiting his legal liability and nothing else. Philosophically I am going to guess he's in lockstep with them, as he has been in the past, and even now after this event - all the way. Him saying anything different is just a lie. Expediency and nothing more.
I watched a Republican today on TV (some ex-campaign manager for Ted Cruz I think) say outright that what those people did was on so shameful and then turn around and say in the next breath that without the Qanon types and other followers of Trump (which includes conspiracy theorists, white supremacists and racists) the Republican Party would be forever damaged so they HAD to be included in the party in the future! Folded into the party permanently. So they aren't going to shun them, they aren't going to purge them (like Eisenhower did to the John Birchers) - they are going to bend to their terrorist tactics and embrace them! That is truly scary!
