I’m just reading the reports of Trump’s light and disinfectant suggestions for a covid 19 “cure.”. That plus his response to the journalist who questioned him honestly makes me think the guy is genuinely mentally unstable. His words & behaviour are simply not those of a sane person. I think he needs to be psychiatrically assessed pronto.

His words and behaviour are those of an entitled person - a person who thinks that he’s better than you because he has more money and power. I’ve known some people like that before! Not millionaires, of course, but people who have risen to power quickly (and undeservedly) and then acted horribly once they got there.
When I first started working, a co-worker got a promotion overseeing a department. We were so happy for her - one of us “regular folks” had finally made it! But I soon found out that the only reason she even wanted the job was to be able to be nasty to the people she didn’t like. She could do whatever she wanted, and no one could stop her! I was still fairly new, so she probably thought she was impressing me when she confided in me all sorts of things she found out about my co-workers, but I was just scared and tried not to give her any reason to hate me, too.
Thankfully, due to some cutbacks, her position and several others were eliminated after a couple of years, and she returned to her old job where she couldn’t do as much harm. About ten years later, they posted that manager’s position again, and I got. The former manager - the only other person who had ever had that job - decided not to apply for it. She told me that it was too much work and “too political”. She offered me all kinds of advice, and I soon regretted wanting the job! Other people came to me too, with names of employees who should be fired. Huh? I wasn’t even in a position to hire or fire anyone!
I started hating everything about the job, so I made a conscious decision to change it. Just because the previous manager was power-hangry didn’t mean I had to be. It bothered me a lot that people felt comfortable coming up to me to bad-mouth employees who had been my friends, but they were just doing what the previous manager had encouraged them to do. I wanted to be manager because I had great ideas that I thought could make my department better, so that’s what I focussed on. I helped people who were struggling rather than find ways to torment them. Sure, I had some members of my department immediately try to take advantage of me once they realized that they could get way with anything and not get punished, but they had mistaken my kindness for stupidity. I knew exactly what they were doing, and I made sure my bosses (who did have the power to hire and fire) found out what they were up to. Their behaviour soon changed.
That previous manager eventually ended up on a committee I was heading (my boss insisted on it), and every meeting we had began with her sharing terrible gossip about the people in her workplace. I was horrified the first time she did it, because the rest of the committee looked at me for my response. But I just ignored it and went on with the next item on our agenda. And that’s what I kept doing - let her spew her poison and then pretend it hadn’t happened. I know that I should have just told her to shut up, but I’m not confrontational and just continued not to acknowledge the things she said. It was lovely when she decided to retire early - I even organized a good-bye dinner for her!

Ellie, Donald Trump is profoundly mentally ill. He has at least one severe personality disorder and a seemingly endless series of other disturbing behaviors & traits. It’s the only thing that gives me a modicum of empathy for him, because it’s really not his fault he’s like that. He can’t help it. It’s a mix of brain chemistry and a sick upbringing. He’s always been the way he is and he won’t change. He needs help, but the particular mix of disturbances that create his psyche won’t allow for any help to be received or even comprehended as necessary.
To have a man as pathologically disturbed as he is in charge of an entire country is the most dangerous thing I’ve witnessed in my lifetime. Thousands are dead because of his racism, misogyny, cruelty, sadism, criminal behaviors, inability to think and plan, his narcissism, his magical thinking, his history of privilege & getting his own way no matter the cost, plus his basic inability to comprehend facts. It’s a deadly combination for those in his path.
He needs to be removed from office *today* but certain powerful members of the greedy, corrupt, also psychopathic Republication party are having too good of a time draining our country of its remaining resources to stop him. Everyone else is helpless against this onslaught. America is finished and I’m in despair.

No matter how many ways I try to frame it I just cannot understand how anybody is still supporting the guy. And why nobody is taking action to remove a man that is patently unfit for Office from his post really does beggar belief.

Thanks, Ellie. This really hurts. It’s hard enough just trying to get through this pandemic as it is, but to have our “leaders” actively killing people is too much for me. I’m not in a good place today, my heart is very heavy.

Wow, about 5,000 protestors stormed the White House tonight, pulled down a bunch of barriers, almost breaching the walls, tangled with the Secret Service, and were eventually maced and driven back. 😳 They’ll be back later today.
The US seems to be toppling. None of the major news outlets are covering it. They’re all covering the city protests. Scary stuff!
The thing is, there’s all kinds of bad actors and separate agendas going on with these protesters. Some are cops are infiltrating the crowds dressed as protestors and urging the violence to continue, some are white supremacists, some MAGAs, some folks just out to get their kicks & loot stores, and others are legitimate BLM protesters. This is incredibly dangerous, and our “president” is a coward who is not equipped, mentally, to deal with this.

Unless his goal is to sow chaos & division. Then he’s doing exactly as Putin wants, like he’s always done.

There was some commentary, back in March when some passengers with the coronavirus on a cruise ship were allowed to fly back to the United States, and things were handled badly from an infectious disease control standpoint* about how badly the Trump administration had handled the logistics. It was to the effect that things were done wrong, many mistakes were made, from a 'trying to limit the spread of disease during a pandemic' perspective.
Basically, if you WANTED it to spread, if you were purposely TRYING to spread it within the US, you couldn't have done a better job.
So, yeah, sometimes I see what Trump and his cronies do, and I wonder are they purposely trying to make the wheels come off? But then I realize he's just a self-centered, selfish idiot, who reflexively will ALWAYS say or do the meanest, least empathetic, most destructive, most nonsensical thing to gain attention, have people talk about him or to distract them from something he DOESN'T want them to talk about.
He's just awful. I cannot wait until November when we can vote him out of power, and pray that a) we get a chance to and b) the crazies don't somehow reelect him.
* allowing passengers to return to the US without any quarantine flying infected passengers on a plane without taking precautions to keep them separate from non-infected passengers the administration overriding CDC (Center for Disease Control) guidelines, recommendations for how the infected people should be met, greeted, interviewed having HHS (Health and Human Services) personnel greet the passengers and interview them, instead of CDC personnel who are specifically trained to
deal with, interview people exposed to infectious diseases having those HHS workers greet the passengers and interview them WITHOUT any PPE allowing those HHS workers, when they were done, to just head home ... back into the community. Some of them weren't from the area, so they had to head to the airport and fly out to their home cities. And none of them were subject to any quarantine or testing. They just ... left.
