It's insane! There is a lot of things to say but TBH the main thing in my head when I look to those images is that I really hope the pandemic is indeed controlled as the demagogues said!

Of course it isn’t controlled. I don’t even have words for what’s happening. It’s incredibly upsetting, angrifying, and sad, but it also is a reckoning centuries in the making. I never thought I’d live to see something like this AGAIN. This feels exactly like 1968.

I did not watch the video of the man dying. I just couldn’t bring myself to look at it. The still images were more than enough to make me feel sick and horrified. I have no words to adequately express my horror that such a thing could happen. Those police officers have to be prosecuted AND convicted.
Like other posters have said Trump is the worst possible person to be President right now. I’m hoping against hope he will not be re elected. But I fear he will. The lurch to the extreme right in the US, the UK and some other countries such as Italy and Brazil is really terrifying.

This is an aside to the political situation here and BLM. I’ve seen so many posts on twitter from people who are angry and disappointed that their fav celeb hasn’t made a statement, gotten involved, or donated regarding the movement. BC’s name has come up a few times. I mean these people are ANGRY about it, and if there was a cancel button that could chuck their fav out into space, they’d press it. Some people are saying silence = complicity = racist.
I find it weird that people expect/demand celebs speak up over political matters. It would be nice to have celebs use their clout to try to affect change, but I don’t think it’s required. It’s interesting, b/c if you’re not speaking up, then you’re assumed to be a bad person, but white people are being told to shut up and listen anyway. There’s a lot of passion going on in twitter right now anyway.
On the other hand, it is a hugely important issue and of course racism needs to be addressed with the most voices calling for change as possible.
What do y’all think? Is it incumbent on celebs to speak up?

I saw just one tweet from someone defending BC and others for that complaints. I didn't see any tweet myself but I don't follow many people and also not always search the tag.
I don't know what to think.
If they'd do it many are going to say they're just trying to look good or that it is PR.
If they have any social media account perhaps it is reasonable to expect them saying something. At least they could retweet something with their thoughts.
Taika Waititi's been doing it and he got a lot of backlash because of one of his tweets.
I don't know who are the rest of the celebrities so I can´t opine.
The COVID response from celebrities wasn't always welcomed.

I think most celebrities, such as Benedict, make their opinions public when they want to draw attention to a cause. Celebrity voices are absolutely not necessary (or welcome) right now because this cause is already getting world-wide attention. The exception, I think, is for celebrities who have their own personal stories/experiences to share.

So, now he has the virus? Or is it a publicity stunt - sympathy vote?

No, he’s got it. He hosted a super spreader event at the White House on Saturday. Gobs of people have come down with the virus, and probably even more in the next day or two. Bunch of fooking idiots. Hubris. Overbearing, murderous hubris. He should be in prison for negligent homicide. All those republicans who have enabled and supported him over the last 4 years should join him.
I know this isn’t nice or compassionate or very Buddhist of me, but I hope he dies, horribly, choking on blood clots. I hope they all do, him and his entire, nasty, sociopathic family. 200k people dead b/c of this terrible man. He’s driven this country to its knees and I will never EVER forgive him for that.
But he won’t, of course. He’s got the best health care in the country, paid for AGAIN with our tax dollars, which he squirrels out of paying himself. Christ I hate that man.

I don't wish him death! Never! I think I agreed with Studios Exec Also I'm sure his followers would consider it some kind of twisted martyrdom. That's not good! He had to be loudly defeated in a democratic process. He has to go as a big loser not like a victim (of his own stupidity, of course, but conspiracy theorists are already working in their own version of the facts).

Now I don't feel so bad about hoping for a bullet behind one of his ears.
