BC last project was released just two months ago. He was shooting a new movie until December and it seems he resumed the shooting today. The rumors said that he will begin another film in the Autumn and it's official that there will be a new Dr. Strange movie soon. He hasn't actually stopped.
Still, I understand what you said : we normally have a bunch of announcements about new projects at once and there haven't been too many recently (apart of his cameo in Good Omens) but most of those announcements aren't actually concreted because, well, he can't do everything! Probably there will be some news in May during the Cannes film market. We will see. Anyway he is still working and he still has more projects with his name on them than anyone of his contemporaries.

Well there is Ironbark which is potentially v interesting and the new Infinity Wars thing and Dr Strange 2 so a fair bit in the pipeline but it seems a long way away. Meanwhile his total blackout on his family life is understandable but frustrating. It would be nice to at least know the sex of the new baby. But obviously he no longer even divulges that tiny tidbit of info. I think I’m probably one of the most detached fans anyone could have. I would never approach him for an autograph or photo. Heck if he was standing next to me I would pretend I hadn’t seen him as I just don’t do talking to famous people I don’t know.
But........ one of the pleasures of being a fan is getting little insights into the private life of the people you admire: that’s why biographies & autobiographies are so popular. But with BC lately you get zilch.
I dunno. Surely there is a happy medium between the Khardashians and total info shutdown.

He also just did that MG commercial that I guess will be shown in India? The money from that should help with the tuition for the cumberkids, and free him up to do interesting movies.
I hope that he participates in the promotion for Good Omens in May!

I think the trailers and posters are horrible. Three hours of nonsense. All the dead coming back to life, even Loki. Can't believe there are people emotionally invested in such a fake thing. |

I don't know the average but big stars don't do so many films as BC and other UK actors do. One every two years as DiCaprio seems right.
Still, I don't think he is slowing down about work. Again last thing was released in January. Three months before that The Grinch was released and early last year, Patrick Melrose. Three production without mentioning The Avengers thing and Mowgli.
This year should be "quiet": we have Brexit and probably Ironbark with small roles in Good Omens, The other Avengers film and maybe an oldie, The Current War.
IMHO the question is that we didn't have the bunch of announcements early this year that we have the last two years but mostly is what Ellen says, he is becoming much more discreet with his familiar/personal life. He always was discreet but he is even more now. It's understandable. And maybe it's because he is older and the tabloids doesn't care now too much to ask or to follow him.

I agree totally with your post. I also think that he is busy enough. I think he has become increasingly private about his family because it is a matter of security. He's learning this as he goes. He has already stated that he is aware of the obsessive, stalking, scary behaviour of a certain element out there and that would make any sane person back away from exposing themselves too much in the public eye. |

Yes I don’t see any issue on the work front as he seems to have plenty to keep him busy this year. It’s just the news blackout on the non work stuff that makes being a fan slightly less interesting than it used to be largely from the perspective that there’s not much to read and have fun discussing with other fans. I’m still a fan of his work obviously but I used to really enjoy the online banter with fellow fans about BC’s various off duty activities ranging from his random appearances at Grand Prix to Wimbledon to his extensive hat and blue shirt collection. Now that’s diminished it makes for a lot of tumbleweed in the online community.

I think we'll get a confirmation about the baby soon. He hasn't had many new interviews, but another Avengers is coming and that always goes along with a PR tour. I thought about him this weekend; my nephew and his expectant wife had a gender reveal party, and it's to be the first girl born in mine or my husband's family in 25 years! Do we know if he is filming any other projects before Rio next fall (maybe?) Ellie, you never knew you would miss those hats until they were gone.  |
