I just discovered that Four Lions is being shown on Crackle. I haven't watched it yet. I have the Crackle app on my iPad, but I don't go to it very often, other than to watch Jerry Seinfeld's Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. I don't know if it's available everywhere, but they have a website, too. m.crackle.com/playlist/2127432/2502441

I finally watched it yesterday, and it's very good. It's an unlikely mix of laugh-out-loud humour and shocking, brutal violence. I looked up some reviews, and they were very positive. One said that because of the small budget, much of it was filmed documentary-style, which added the feeling of it being real. It actually reminded me of the bigger-budget Fargo, which also mixed humour and brutal violence. And Fargo also claimed to be based on true events, which, we discovered later, wasn't true. Both movies feature characters who are ridiculously incompetent at what they do. But in Fargo, the police are portrayed as intelligent and very competent, whereas in Four Lions everyone seems to be an idiot at what they do, including the police, and including Benedict as the negotiator. It's a very small part, but we do get a glimpse at Benedict playing someone who's not very bright. And he was very good at it!

A look back at the movie. It’s an interesting article. I don’t think Benedict is mentioned.
