(Off topic - Speaking of The Goldfinch. . . It’s been getting horrible reviews at TIFF. What a shame! I know nothing about it and haven’t read the book, but the trailer I saw at the movies a couple of weeks ago looked fantastic. Those same critics are giving Hustlers rave reviews! I don’t care - I plan on seeing The Goldfinch and I’m not going anywhere near Hustlers. )

This video has already been posted in another thread, but now Entertainment Weekly has an article about it:

An article about its awards chances after the social media acclaim after the first screenings, Great! But TBH I found silly that initial reactions to these kind of films are always about awards! How many awards it could win? Could it win against Scorsese?, etc. It's like betting on horses racing instead of actually caring about films!

That’s what most of those websites do - they make nomination predictions based on the types of movies that have gotten nominations in the past. They don’t consider whether the movie stands a chance of winning.

The awards are publicity for these kind of films and the hype is part of it but I mistrust of people who genuinely seem to believe the award is the objective or that it really means something. So yes, award pundits are equally pathetic than fanboys.
By the way, I saw another article that confirms all the famous actors are doing just cameos in the film. It's all about the two young actors.

It sounds like a great movie, but too intense for me. When I watched War Horse, I fast forwarded over the war parts, lol. If Benedict had a larger role, I’d make myself see it, but it sounds more like a cameo deep into the movie.

I read this was an extended version of the first 20 minutes of Saving Private Ryan. That indeed sounds extremely intense and horrific!
War Horse has a pair of intense PG-13 scenes: the failed cavelry attack and the no man's land scenes with the beautiful black horse dying were tense but very clean. This sounds like another level of horrific.
I saw those comments about this being the best war movie since Saving Private Ryan which provoked the fury of Nolan's fans! LOL! Someone mentioned The Thin Red Line which it's indeed great and beautiful (but not necessarily tense or horrific). And someone else said, Letters from Iwo Jima and I totally agree with it! I love Letters from Iwo Jima! Another brutal film about the senseless of war.
