Our local news just did a story about how the university in our city played a little part in the production of 1917. The university has an extensive collection of old maps, so last year they were contacted by someone in the production company, looking for a specific map dating to 1917. They showed a scene from the movie with Colin Firth leaning over the map in question. The university’s map collection includes the world’s largest digital collection of maps from WWI and WWII, and other movies have also used those maps.
The news story also showed a clip from the movie, and said it starred Benedict Cumberbatch (and others, too, but I stop paying attention once they’ve said his name!)

This is a pretty good interview! Someone on twitter posted a part of this with a spoiler in the tweet, so here’s the whole thing. It’s all spoilers, so don’t watch if you’re trying to avoid them. Benedict’s spoiler is mentioned at 2:15.
