It is just now starting to filter through the media... metro.co.uk/2019/04/15/benedict-cumberbatch-knocks-cyclist-off-bike-lamborghini-4x4-isle-wight-9201849/The Sun had it first and then the DM but I see Metro news has picked it up. I am not sure of UK law but in Canada I don’t think it would be a big deal, especially if the cyclist was not following the rules of the road. The authorities have certainly made it plain that nothing criminal is involved and BC didn’t want to pursue anything against the man for the physical assault. Sounds like BC did everything as correctly as possible - stopping to see if the old fellow was OK, offering aid, not responding back when assaulted, and offering him a lift to the medical facilities. The 20,000 GBP is just some greedy lawyer getting ahold of a grumpy old fart IMO. OTOH it is never a good idea to run into seniors! Never comes out well in the press (even if they are in the wrong). Those roads on IOW are tremendously narrow and winding. When we were walking to Mottistone we feared 100% of the time of being run over (but I did notice that most people drove with reasonable amount of caution).

It doesn't seem to be a big deal for the UK police neither, according to The Sun article. It also said that BC was the one who reported the accident. So yes, it seems he did all the right things.
Anyway, I'm glad that no one was seriously harmed.

What’s a “ruptured arm?” That sounds made up.

What’s a “ruptured arm?” That sounds made up. Ruptured arm is a term for a torn arm tendon. But I don't usually associate it with an accidental trauma. It usually is associated with a chronic overuse problem - too much activity resulting in wear and tear on a specific tendon that causes it to rupture (or tear).

Bizarre. Only yesterday there was a story about a huge crash between a bus and two cars on the IOW. One person dead and several injured. Now BC’s incident. Seems it was a bad week for traffic on the island.

Yes, it said it was in September last year. The "friend" of the guy sold the story to The Sun (the guy didn't accept to talk with them but there are photos of him. It seems BC's people confirmed the accident but refuted that the car was Lamborghini as in the Doctor Strange movie as the headline still claims!) same with the Uber driver that saw BC fighting the attackers of the other cyclist in London months ago. At the end of the articles say to contact them if you have a celebrity story!
EDITED: I'm seeing it's widely reported today. Of course! The "Lamborghini" part seems relevant to the press. Pretentious rich actor = Lamborghini. I know understand why his people were quick to correct that part. It didn't made any difference, tho.!

Someone had told this Scooby person that he can get a lot of money out of this, but as was mentioned in the article, insurance will handle it.
We were once obligated to sit through a presentation about insurance at work, and it was mostly boring but also informative! They said that if someone is injured and sues someone else, the insurance company does an investigation. For example, Scooby may decide to sue Benedict or even the city itself. Insurance companies don’t assign 100% of the fault to only one party, though. They may conclude that Scooby wasn’t riding his bike safely. Or maybe Benedict was going too fast for that curve in the road. Or maybe the posted speed limit was too high for that area. They’ll find out if Scooby has fallen from his bike before, or if Benedict has hit someone before. Or if anyone has had a similar accident in that particularly dangerous part of the road. Then they’ll conclude that the accident was 90% Scooby’s fault, for example, and 10% the city’s. (Benedict is an angel, of course, and would never be at fault! Ha!)

Did they just wait until BC finally had a big movie coming out, to publicize it? It seems like impact with a car would cause broken bones or surface cuts and bruising, not a torn tendon. The whole thing sounds strange.
