I’m a bit saddened by all the hate directed at Edison these days. When I was growing up, he was looked up to as a great man who’s inventions changed our world. Now it seems people hate him and discount his achievements because he was a bit of an arsehole and he’s been moved into the cancel culture arena. It’s too bad, imo. Sure, he was no saint (neither was Henry Ford), but they both contributed enormously to the betterment of our world as well.

I think it's also related to the Tesla cult.
About the Weinstein company not wanting the audiences to dislike BC, I was thinking how they completely misunderstood him! I guess it's similar to people claiming he wasn't the right actor to play Dominic Cummings because he is the "heroic" type! Well, he is something much more complex and ambiguous!
I remember an old review or article. I think on The Guardian. The author said he or she couldn't imagine an American actor playing the kind of roles he was doing, referring to Edmund Talbot. Precisely because they would fear to look unlikable to audiences!
He tends to humanizes very flawed men, including when he is playing heroic people. Some of those men find redemption, others not but they never try to be liked.
In the same theme, I can't wait for him playing Phil Burbank in The Power of the Dog!

I’m watching Jimmy Kimmel, and he listed all the guests he will have on his show next week from Brooklyn, including Benedict. And then just now they had a commercial for The Current War! How exciting! It’s finally seeming like it’s going to actually come out!

That exact quote word for word was something I read in an interview when The Current War was at TIFF. There are parts of the interview I haven't seen before, but I think it is an old one that has just been held back.
