With Will Sharpe directing, it makes sense that it’s considered a comedy. Flowers was funny and weird, but it also dealt with serious mental health issues. The movie has cats - it has to be funny!

Yes, Ithink he was diagnosed schizophrenic. Some modern people speculate that maybe it was something else but officially at the time it was schizophrenia.

Yes, anything that deviated from the “norm,” was considered schizophrenia. I’m not even sure he was officially diagnosed. 🤷🏻♀️

I googled it and you are right he was never diagnosed with schizophrenia. He was just institutionalized.

I forgot to mention that for institutionalized women, the diagnosis was often some form of “uterine derangement.” 😂😂😂
