Universal’s 1917 earned another $15.8 million (-28%) in its third weekend of wide release as it passed $100 million domestic and $200 million worldwide. Sam Mendes’ Oscar-nominated (and possibly Oscar-winning) World War I thriller has grossed $103.88 million domestic and $200 million worldwide on a $90 million budget. That hold is even better than Mark Wahlberg’s Lone Survivor (-41% in weekend three), meaning that 1917 is still on track to earn at least $135 million domestic. Needless to say, a winning Oscar night will almost certainly push that cume over the $150 million mark. This is a big win for Universal, especially as they weather the storm of Cats and Dolittle.
