I agree! How annoying indeed. It sounds like a snotty sounding velvet hammered insult to be honest.
Why should "Dad" be associated with a certain type of movie like this? Like what... it's a movie the stereotypical older males would be attracted to? Why wouldn't women want to see it just as much? What about history bluffs of all stripes and sizes? This sounds more than slightly sexist and ageist. I especially take umbrage because ALL my life (even as a young girl) this kind of film has been greatly appealing to me and I'm the farthest thing from a "Dad" sort!

It's a conventional movie and they really enjoyed it (because apparently it's well made) so they need to justify their "edgy" selves! Lol I remember that gay reviewer who cast himself as someone edgy for imagining the central relationship as a gay one. He apparently was unique in detecting some homoeroticism between the two main male characters in an "innocent" Dad's movie. He apparently thinks that entertainment business is super duper straight and naively include sometimes gay subtext in "innocent" movies. Of course, I haven't watched this film and in real life those persons weren't gay but the freaking director is an openly gay man! A theater director and an openly gay man! How could he be naive about gay relationships? So yes, gay filmmakers can do Dad's movies! Who would imagined it?!

It’s the same as when they dismiss movies as “chick flicks”, implying they will only appeal to women - so who cares?
I look forward to one day reading about action movies described as “brainless violence for losers” , or a 4-hour blockbuster described as a “big-screen video game for nerds”. They would never do that, of course, because action movies and blockbusters bring in big money, and they wouldn’t want to offend people with money to spend.

filmthreat.com/reviews/the-courier/2/I'm being a little sexist here because in other paragraphs, the critic praised Brosnahan and Buckley and their roles. The first one because it's an amalgamation of a few mostly male real-life persons presented in a credible way as a woman and the last one, because it's more than just the "wife" role. But for obvious reasons, I went for the paragraphs about BC!
