I don’t know if any of you like Irish music but, if you do, this will lift your spirits for a few minutes amid the virus stress & gloom. I got sent this link as I know Rauidrhi, the guy who founded and leads the group. It definitely got me singing along! youtu.be/2yKLnfYqOIs

Well, it finally happened - our area has recorded COVID19 cases. Five people presented themselves at our local hospital ER and have been admitted into the hospital. They were all over the age of 60. There is an investigation is underway as to contacting people they were interacting with recently. And so it begins...

The Helth Secretary said yesterday that here surely will be the place with most cases in Mexico. The main reason is that we are near the USA and things are getting increasingly bad there and very probably will get even much worse. We aren't actually the nearest place to the USA but we are the biggest and more crowded place near it.
Right now, we have a second place behind Mexico city, which it's much more crowded (actually it's one of the crowded cities in the whole world). TBH I don't think we will be above them. Mexico City isn't just much bigger but they reacted too late! Our authorities are very far from being perfect here but they at least did something early on. There are criticism that the measures weren't perfectly applied but when I searched for New Zealand the other day, there were also people moaning the strict measures weren't being applied in the best possible way, too!
There are also rumors that things are much worse than what the authorities are saying but if things were really out of control then it would be noticeable. Not even China could hide something like that! Right now, the government is renting private hospitals and private hospitals are cancelling not urgent surgeries and setting new areas up to prepare for the blow. We are just hoping the blow is not too severe!

I don't believe your numbers, sgev1977. They're too low. They're probably not testing. We're already at more than 200 and our population is ridiculous compared to México's. Of course perhaps the Mexicans who imported the infection aren't stupid like my fellow countrymen or women. More than half of the cases came from the idiot who went to a wedding (with 500 guests), visit family and friends and spread the infection. US just passed China in cases.

Wow. Our local authorities decided to announce not just the "official" numbers (the ones confirmed by the Mexican government) but also the numbers by private laboratories. The Governor announced a few days ago that he negotiated with laboratories to buy all their tests so they supposedly are free right now to anyone who has a prescription by a doctor.
So officially there are just 60 cases but in reality there are 97 here. The "extra" cases won't be included by the federal government in their total number tonight but locally they are being considered official. So it's confirmed what everyone knew: Mexican federal authorities are being very burocratic and slow!
Again local government is very unpopular but at least they are doing something and are being open!
The Helth Secretary mentioned again the USA. I doubt the president will close borders with it because he practically begged to Donald Trump not to doing it! So we are very vulnerable because our closeness. The Helth Secretary just asked to Americans not to travel to Mexico right now.

And yes, the numbers are wrong. There are almost 100 cases just in my city (according to local authorities) so yep, the total number in the whole country should be much bigger than just 475. I can't imagine how many cases Mexico City really has. They were doing massive events when movie theaters and party saloons were already closed here!

I have seen people questioning why he was tested and not the helth workers. Of course the helth workers must be tested and he should be criticized for a lot of his actions. I agreed with that! But he is the prime minister. He is the leader so, of course, he needed to be tested! I also have seen people saying Jeremy Corbyn would have done a better work. Maybe, we will never know but I tend to think he wouldn't be too different to my president. They are actually very close friends. Corbyn's wife is from Mexico and all of them are very far-left wing socialists and believe me he wasn't just recommending to shake hands as Johnson but also hugs and kisses a few days ago. He is not considered the worst leader in the planet right now just because Bolsarano in Brazil! We are just hoping that local governments could function in a better way and thanking for a federated system!
The video of Dominic Cummings running is hysterical, tho.!

Just checking in to make sure y’all are okay. Things are ramping up. Be safe, my lovelies. 🙏🏻🥰 Well, since you asked . . . let me take this opportunity to vent to strangers! First, we’re fine, so that’s good. But my father is unhappy that I’m not going over there for Sunday lunch anymore. He’s certain that my mother told me not to go, but that’s not true. My mother had stopped coming over for coffee on Wednesdays because she didn’t want to cause “problems”. She thinks that someone will report her and she’ll get in trouble if someone sees her coming over. I tried to tell her that that isn’t the case, that no one is going to report her. They live around the corner - eight houses away. If they wanted, they could probably just shout really loudly and I could hear them from here. I’m finding reasons to call over there every couple of days, and they can certainly call me. This isolation must be driving my father crazy! He’s a very sociable person and is used to going out every morning and meeting up over coffee with a group of old Italian buddies. The highlight of my day today: I ventured out to a drugstore this morning for the first time since we’ve been told to stay home. When I was paying, the teenage girl behind the counter asked if I wanted to redeem the 20% “senior’s discount”. They’ve started giving a discount to seniors during the first hour the store is open each day, so I wasn’t really surprised. Except that I’m not a senior! I told the girl that, and also that I would be willing to get the discount anyway. Ha! She apologized profusely, and said that she really didn’t think I was a senior. I reassured her that it was ok. She went on to explain that most customers come right out and ask for the discount, but some customers who don’t mention it have gotten upset that she didn’t give it to them. And if they’ve already paid, she then has to re-do the entire transaction to take off the 20%, which is a pain. This feels a bit like the first time strangers started referring to me as “ma’am” instead of “miss”. Thank you for listening to my vent!
