I had to laugh at the question “Do you know how to turn off alerts?”.
Years ago, when PowerPoint presentations were a new thing and all the rage, I happened to be at a presentation where the screen saver kept popping up once the speaker stepped away from his computer. Finally, someone showed him he needed to jiggle the mouse to wake up the computer and the screen saver would go away - temporarily, at least. The screen savers were set by our IT people, and we never knew that we could get rid of them. I later learned how screen savers could be disabled or set on a much longer timer so that presentations wouldn’t be interrupted.
I made the mistake of mentioning it one time at a meeting, and suddenly I became the tech support at the next conference I attended! People assumed I knew how to do everything! I was asked to connect computers to projectors and to get sound and speakers working, all while a room full of strangers sat there waiting and watching me.
