I wonder who’s paying for it? In the past, I heard that the official fan clubs of the celebrities paid for the stars, but I don’t know if it still works that way.

Here is the complete list of honorees. variety.com/2020/biz/news/nick-cannon-shia-labeouf-zac-efron-kelly-clarkson-walk-of-fame-1234641926/The selection of TV and Film are interesting because a good number of those actors could easily be in the other category, too. I don't if I'm right but normally the awarded stars seem to be promoting something when they receive their stars. Most probably it's the producers behind, for example a movie, the ones paying for the nomination so I wonder if it was Marvel promoting BC's nomination because they originally planned to release Doctor Strange next year! It could be Netflix, too! If they are already planning an Oscar campaign for TPOTD, I guess.

The selection process from Wikipedia, I doubt it was a fan club. We would know about the campaign! Surely it was a film company (considering he is in the motion pictures category) so it's probably one of the multiple producers or distributors behind one of his multiple future projects! Impossible to know which one! EDITED I forgot to add the We will know when hopefully they do the ceremony. I'm inclined to believe Netflix. It could be Marvel if they nominated him when a Doctor Strange 2021 release was still a prospect or maybe Lionsgate if they are very sure that The Courier could still have an impact early next year during awards race. Or maybe Amazon for Louis Wain!

I would think some big outfit like Marvel/ Disney would foot the bill for this sort of thing. Or maybe Netflix. When Dan and I visited LA we went to see the walk. It was fun looking for names that we recognized.

It’s true that the cost is a lot for a fan club to pay for it, but it sounds like the process is still the same. I remember that the celebrity had to agree to being nominated and to attending a ceremony. I learned about it way back in high school, when I was a member of the Barry Manilow International Fan Club. My friend and I split the yearly membership fee and we divided up the cool stuff we were sent. There was talk at the time of nominating him for a star, and the fan club would pay - but I’m sure it cost much less in those days! I just checked, and he did indeed get his star in 1980, so I guess the campaign worked.
I’m so pleased that Benedict agreed to be nominated, because I’ve heard that a lot of celebrities don’t want it. I think he’ll get to decide where his star will be. I hope it’s not tied to a particular role - unless it’s Sherlock. Ha!
(By the way, I eventually paid for my own membership and even spent $100 to become a lifetime member of the BMIFC. I still have the membership card!)

I remembered that Kirsten Dunst was recently honoured so I checked and the ceremony "coincided" with her new series release so surely Showtime paid for it but the interesting part is that she was member of the "2018 class" (announced in 2017) so she actually waited two years! It could be that Marvel is paying and he won't receive the honor until Doctor Strange release in 2022.
This year class includes Julia Roberts (who according to Wikipedia didn't accept an earlier nomination) and Spike Lee, who just released a new movie on Netflix. There haven't been ceremonies this year, of course!

Why not SunnyMarch, or is that too self serving?

Honestly, I think SunnyMarch is too small of a company to do that sort of self-aggrandizement PR. Especially since it is trying to be more of an "indie" type of company. I think "Walk of Fame" publicity promos are much more up Disney/Marvel's alley - lots of flash, wizbang and pop!
I actually was seriously thinking about this whole thing and I could see BC actually never going through this, thinking it had a bit too much of a "Look at me!"aspect about it. I don't think he would mind if it were for a team effort or something, but this actually seems too egocentric to me.
But then again I could be completely wrong and he might view it as just a bit of fun and do it for a lark.
