He’s never been above promoting himself. Remember in the beginning, he’d go to anything (almost) to be seen and make contacts. It is a little egocentric, but so is being an actor. 😂

I used to believe the stars pay for it themselves but if someone else nominate them (and pay for it!) and there is a committee that selects them then it's not that bad! It's like winning a life achievement Oscar, I guess! Sponsored by a studio but curated by someone else. Actually, I liked this part on their Wikipedia entry,
Sure, it can cause some other issues and apparently there had been a few in past years but no one can't say that "conflict of interests" and especially "lobbying" hasn't being a problem in the Oscar race, for example! They at least try to be fairer in that regard.

It is a little egocentric, but so is being an actor. 😂 TBF I think he has limits. For example he always prefers work over promotion. For example, remember his lowkey "conflict" with Weinstein about the intensity of the Oscra campaign for TIG. It's frequently ignored that he wasn't in Hollywood enough time to campaign for it because he was actually working in a miniseries in the UK. Still, there are people who think he campaigned so hard as Eddie Remayne just because he was Weinstein's bet when in reality he didn't even went to the nominees luncheon nor the SAG award and others. But yeah, he isn't neither someone who is above doing what his people tell to do because some artistic purity or something similar! I remember him going to some Oscar parties but not the ceremony when he first arrived in Hollywood. Still, he was interviewed there and when he was asked if it was a dream for him to win an Oscar he said that no. He was a jobbing actor whose dream was to work as an actor. He said that without pretentiousness. He was there indeed to make connections for more roles but he was sincere about it.

I was thinking that Marvel is behind this because Josh Brolin and Don Cheadle are also getting stars. It’s just publicity, like being on the cover of a magazine - which he’s done many times. Only this is more permanent. And he’ll get to decide when it happens and who will speak at the ceremony.. Celebrities usually have their families there with them, which would be great but is unlikely in his case.

Chris Hemsworth was named last year. Ceremony still pending.
It also seems the original Avengers have their own group star.
I would say yes, Marvel is pretty active in these things!
If that's the case the negative side is that we would have to wait until 2022 to see him there! And again, I think he isn't above these things but he also seems to not take them very seriously so yeah, I don't think he would want to expose his kids there because he wanting them to be with him in such an "important" event! Probably his parents will be there, tho.! The wife is sure!
Who famous friend you think would introduce him? Tom Hiddleston? He is also in Marvel and he already presented him with a lifetime award (The South Bank Sky award); Chiwetel Ejiofor?, also Marvel and also gave him a special award before (that LA BAFTA thing); Maybe someone from an older generation as Gary Oldman or Colin Firth, although they don't have a Marvel connection! Zoe Saldana? Andrew Scott? (Some would want Martin Freeman but I have the impression he is closer to Scott. The rumors about he and Martin not being friendly with each other are bonkers but clearly he is much more friendly with Scott) Tilde Swinton? Keira Knightley? Thom Yorke? (he surely would be delighted with a rock star!) Claire Foy? Judi Dench? He has a lot of close British actors friends but I guess it has to be someone with a Hollywood connection.

Whenever I hear he’s in Los Angeles, I wonder if he’s finally getting his star on the Walk of Fame. According to their rules, he has 2 years from the date it’s announced to do it before it expires. That means he has until June 18, 2022.

It seems they already doing events,
I wonder if we will see BC’s event soon and as a part of his Oscar campaign or if they will do it until the Dr. Strange film next year. We will know then who pay for it, Netflix or Disney? I mean, if it was paid by a studio and it surely it was.

That would be perfect - they should do it the week of the Oscars! He’ll be there anyway for his Oscar win, so he can get his star, too. Ha!

It does sound like he truly deserves the Oscar but he’s so unlucky with awards that I’m scared to believe it will happen. I really want it to though, so I’m keeping everything crossed while also telling myself that awards don’t matter. Which of course they don’t. But it would still be nice for him to win it!

I am going to be a total bucket of nerves about his Oscar chances! Last time I vacillated between “it doesn’t matter just the nom was lovely and he’ll be fine if he loses,” and “if they don’t give this to him I’m going to burn down Hollywood!” There is no in between and I expect my reaction will be similar this time. 😂😭😂
