I didn't watch any of the movies except The Mauritanian and started Da 5 Bloods (it bored me) so they could be right or wrong, I don't know.
Some people hate Gary Oldman but even as Churchill he was good.
In tv there are some incomprehensible nominations imo like The Flight Attendant and Kayley Cuoco in Comedy and Bridgerton and the actor in drama. I like they nominated The Great, Ted Lasso and Dead to Me.

I liked Mank. I don't think it was widely loved as it was originally predicted it would be but TBF it was the same with the Spike Lee movie.
Anyway it's just awards. They indeed say more about the judges than about the nominees. At the end, good films will be remembered and the not so good, forgotten. I still think it's bad form to attack those who were nominated just because your favorite wasn't.

I think people hate Gary b/c he’s a conservative and made that comment a number of years ago about “Jews running Hollywood.” 🤭 (Not that he was wrong, lol, but that’s something most people don’t say out loud.)
Imo, he’s an acting GOD! 😍 (even if I could barely understand a word he said in Mank) 😂😂

It's mostly about wanting Lindo there. Yesterday, a few were "attacking" Rahim although most of the criticism were that they didn't know who he is or haven't seen his film so he didn't deserved to be there!
I didn't see anyone questioning Jodie Foster even when she was there with the same "obscure" movie.

I really liked The Flight Attendant, and I thought Kaley Cuoco was great in it!
I haven’t seen most of the shows/movies, and probably won’t, so I can’t say if anyone was undeserving.
I think Jodie Foster has been loved by awards for years, and she gets treated like she can do no wrong. I like her, but I’m not crazy about her film choices. As I’ve mentioned before, I loved her in Freaky Friday, and she was good in Silence of the Lambs (although it’s not my kind of movie). I also really liked Contact and I try to catch it whenever it airs on tv.

Taxi Driver?
I don't know if someone read her NYT's interview. It seems she doesn't consider herself an actress per se. She says she isn't very emotional and finds very difficult to connect with emotional characters. I think I understand what she says. She has given some great performances but she is indeed a kind of "cold" actress. You don't see her as someone who really can lost control of herself or her emotions. All that chat about BC being an "intellectual actor", for example, is bonkers but she is indeed the closest to an "intellectual actor". I loved the scene of her getting angry at her partner in The Mauritanian because it was a brilliant scene brilliantly acted but what you see is someone being passionated about an ideal and she show it in a beautiful way.
She has played vulnerable women (in The Accused or the girl in Taxi Driver) or women in vulnerable situations (Clarice confronting Buffalo Bill in The Silence of the Lamb) but somehow you know she will be OK. She just look stronger and smarter than anyone else on the screen. Even when she is a petite woman!
It's not surprising she prefers directing than acting.

In Nell she seemed to be very vulnerable to me. I really like her role choices.
I have seen a lot of the GG entrants. In the Best Actor in a Limited Series we have watched all the contenders! Some I just don't have access to (those available through Hulu for example) and some, like the one about the heavy metal drummer, I just have no interest in (i abhor heavy metal music more than race car driving!). A couple I have earmarked to be watched but just haven't got around to them yet. I would love to see News of the World (I love Tom Hanks). And I'll probably end up watching One Night in Miami.

In Nell she seemed to be very vulnerable to me. Actually, she mentioned Nell as her more difficult and scary role. EDITED Here is complete quote, t.co/zgSeQkQ3lD?amp=1

I’ve never seen Taxi Driver, but I’ve seen Jodie Foster in other things. After seeing The Accused, and then Flightplan and Panic Room, it seemed like there was a running theme in her roles - a woman in peril who uses her brains to save herself. I know those roles are supposed to be inspiring, but I find them difficult to watch - I want to yell at the screen “Why won’t anyone help her? Hasn’t she been through enough?!”

Well, someone saves her in Taxi Driver but he isn't exactly a nice guy and he apparently inspired someone in real life to try to kill Ronald Reagan. You know, to "save" her! So yeah, it's better when she saves her herself! 😉
