Contact certainly doesn't fall into a "rescued female" format. Foster's Arroway is an ardent explorer doggedly determined to stay the course and pursue answers.
And in Elysium Foster's character is one of the main villains. Yeah she gets assassinated but she needed killing!
In Little Man Tate Foster's character is the one who does the rescuing IIRC.

She also does the rescuing in The Mauritanian!
I don't think it's a spoiler!

Jodie Foster won the Golden Globe! And she mentioned Benedict in her thank-you speech.

I’m happy with JF’s win, even if there are lots of complaints on twitter about it. People aren’t really upset about her winning - they’re upset that another actress didn’t win. And that’s typical during awards season. Mainly, people wondered what this movie was that she won for, because they figured if they hadn’t heard of it, it couldn’t be good.
So this win has people talking and wondering, and that’s a good thing! JF is a respected actress and will bring a new audience to the movie.

Got to be honest, I thought Glenn Close deserved it after having watched both movies, but it's a good boost for the movie and hopefully will bring more people in to see it.

Jodie Foster was a surprise but Glen Close had a lot of hate for her movie against her in certain strategic quarters! I'm sure people unhappy about a Close win would had been much bigger than anyone else! I haven't watched the movie but critics hated it because it presented in a positive light people who they assumed would had voted for Trump! Lol
