I'm very cynical about Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic but I know a lot of people here enjoy those sites ratings so...
Dr. Strange is number 8 so it is one of "the best" Marvel movies. I agreed with it and with the first two Sam Rami's Spider-Man movies. They are really good. I like the X-Men movies in the top ten but I find that franchise pretty insipid. They have a nice social commentary about being discriminated and being different but they also have 0 visual style. They are good but they aren't so good like Sam Rami's Spideman films!

I liked first Avengers, but was frustrated by the second film, the jokes were tired and the epic tone a bit too epic - they really need to remember it is just an entertainment. The same thing with Thor, quite like the first (although Natalie Portman's character was a disaster), but the second one was beyond silly. However, Tom Hiddlestone looks really handsome in the new trailer!

TBH I can't believe The Avengers was so liked by critics. It had a few funny lines but the story was weak, the special effects were boring and the action scenes were awfully choreographed. I understand the director is loved because he created the TV version of Buffy (yes, I watched the less known film at the time!) and other popular series and maybe that's the movie feel: a 90s TV series about bigger than life characters but with much less plot.
I haven't watched the sequel.
I didn't finished Thor 1. It was very boring!

Cumberbatch has an elfin, offbeat star quality unmatched in current Hollywood I don't get exactly the meaning. Elfin, offbeat quality sounds much like alien quality. Lol.

I loved those things about DS, and hope the sequel is similar in tone. Actually being released around Donald Trump's election, it was a nice escapist film with an uplifting message, which made me feel a little better (for a couple of hours, anyway.)

It's not a Doctor Strange review but the new Spider-Man but there is a negative (for Spidey) comparison between them. By Manohla Dargis from Teh New York Times: www.nytimes.com/2017/06/29/movies/spider-man-homecoming-review.html?smid=tw-nytimes&smtyp=curFan boys and Twitter movie critics (the ones who run to be the first to put their opinion out there and then discuss their own reactions with followers on social media) are in ecstasy with this movie but yesterday I was talking about comic-book movies with a friend who loves comics and I remembered how a lot of people seem to loved the first Avengers movie which in my opinion was boring and more like a 90s TV production then I though what if it's the case with the news Spider-Man? Everyone seem to love it but I haven't read actual reviews by serious critics (A.O. Scott was very negative about The Avengers at the time, too). Then before reading the review, I read a positive comment on Twitter saying it's more a John Hughes movie than a superhero film and I though about how even when Hughes movies were entertaining they aren't so great as people feed on nostalgia say they are.

I like it. In terms of visual, yeah there's nothing extravagant like DS.
I like that this movie make fun of superheroes movie tropes. it's a comicbook movie about a 15 yo super hero and it does it job and didn't take itself seriously.
And Tom H is endearing as Spidey. My fave of l the spideys.

Recent articles seem to position Spiderman as the new "lead" character like Iron Man, as opposed to past ones that implied it would be Dr. Strange. I wonder if reception for the movie will change that. Probably the only difference for BC would be the number of movies and PR events he'd have to do; I'm sure DS will get his 3 solo movies and various cameos either way.
