So I finally watched this last night, as prep for finally watching MoM when it comes to Disney this week.
It was entertaining enough, though I suspect a lot of the supposed big moments were lost on me because I’m not that into Spider-Man in his various incarnations and the stories and the villains . The lead Scooby trio did fine and held their own, Garfield was more emo-adjacent than I expected, Maguire didn’t fully land for me. And I spent way more time than I’d like to admit wondering “is that the guy from Wings and Ned & Stacey?” every time one of the characters was around.
Benedict’s DS was … odd. In his first scene his hair, hairline was really odd, much lower hairline on his forehead and much more “helmet head” than he’s had in other prior appearances. It changed as the film went on, which is a little annoying… this is Marvel studios, they should be able to nail hair and makeup continuity in their sleep at this point. But his performance was a bit off to me, like it was a slightly different character than the DS we’d seen up til then. For now I’m hand waving it away as a) lingering effects of being dusted and the entire Infinity Saga experience and b) settling into a supporting role filling Tony Stark’s place in the SM saga; he didn’t need to carry the emotional journey of the film so he could kind of have a lark.
From just the trailers for DS: MoM, I suspect wonky hair continuity and characterization is going to be an ongoing thing for DS in the MCU, but I’ll probably enjoy DS2 well enough. I’m pretty much done with Spider-Man though, aside from the occasional rewatch of Into the Spider-verse, which I did enjoy.
