To any Canucks out there Happy Thanksgiving! I know it's technically tomorrow but we are celebrating it today. We're having a video Turkey Day dinner with my sister and her husband (they are busy tomorrow with their son and his wife)! Turkey is cooking right now! A whole turkey! I will make all sorts of things from the leftovers (homemade carcass turkey soup, turkey chili etc.).
Anyway, happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving! We always celebrate on Sunday, too, so that Monday is a day off. My mother cooked a couple of turkey breasts and some sides, and I made some other sides and dessert, and then we swapped dishes. I ate a ton, but we still have lots, so there will be at least a couple of days of leftovers.

Well, another Turkey Day and again it was a virtual dinner! This time we spent it having a video dinner with my sister who is on her own because her husband is in Vancouver visiting their daughters and grandson. We did make arrangements for her to come to spend a few days with us. She's getting pretty lonely on her own just talking to the cat!
Anyway I cooked a HUGE turkey, even though there is just the two of us, but I will be making all sorts of meals with it! Including turkey carcass soup - one of my favourites!

Happy Thanksgiving!
We decided to order everything already cooked this year - including a whole turkey - from a supermarket. All I had to do was heat it up. Then I brought half of everything to my parents. We had no choice of the size of the turkey, so it’s bigger than we would normally have bought. We will definitely be putting some in the freezer!
If you think that ordering already-cooked food saves on doing dishes, you’re wrong! To heat it up, you need the same roasting pan, pots, dishes and utensils you always need - and you have the same mess!
We ordered from this same place another time a few years ago, but I had to go and pick it up. That’s one tiny advantage to this pandemic - everyone is willing to deliver stuff right to your door! I hope when the pandemic ends, they keep up the deliveries.
I just checked the tv listings, and our local tv station is showing several hours of Thanksgiving episodes old sitcoms. I know what I’ll be doing today! They showed Doctor Strange last night for the millionth time, but I only switched to it a few times rather than watch the whole thing.

Well, we had our big dinner yesterday with my sister. Today we're probably going to spend it on our beach and go swimming. It's really warm today and the water, while definitely not "summertime warm", is swimmable.
Our dinner will be Thanksgiving leftovers from yesterday. Which I LOVE! also I'll start collecting all the ingredients I'll need for the turkey broth which I will do as soon as I have enough bones. My sis will be here Thursday or Friday and I promised her some homemade soup! And it's a two day endeavour to make the broth and then put the other ingredients in to finish the soup. So I better get cracking!

I’m so jealous of you all with the big holiday turkey with all the fixings! Yum! Happy Thanksgiving!
Now to the important question: stuffing or mashed potatoes?

Both. We don't eat many carbs nowadays because of Dan's diabetes so potatoes are a rare treat as is stuffing. But Thanksgiving and Xmas are the time to splurge so, I make mash potatoes and gravy and do a bread stuffing (but cooked in a dish outside of the bird - I don't really like stuffing in the bird). I make my own non sugar cranberry sauce (it's REALLY easy). And we had corn on the cob and garlic almond green beans as veggies.

We have both, too - but none of it was made by us this year. Thanksgiving isn’t an Italian holiday, so for us it was always just a day off school and work, and the one time a year we eat any of that stuff - turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, etc, so we have it all.
