There was already one tweet saying the movie was going to be awful because of Benedict’s accent. I thought he sounded perfect! Well, that's a very over the top reaction! We have to resign to the fact that some people just want to hear Sherlock! Slightly OT but I have seen a few tweets of people asking why BC's performance as Smaug wasn't acclaimed how it deserved it. Well, it didn't helped that the movie wasn't a hit with critics but also at the time a good number of critics and people in general were sure it was just a F/X trick. That they hired the popular kid just for pr reasons and then they altered his voice beyond recognition. They moaned about how unfair it was to "real" voice actors. I knew it wasn't the case because I had heard his performance as the Angel of Islington. The director then posted on Twitter that the sepulchral and supernatural voice was just him without any effect but The Hobbit crew admitted they used some F/X in his voice so everything about it should be fake because the voice was almost non-human even when the Neverwhere radio show suggested that most of it was just him! It wasn't until the behind the scenes video of him doing not just the voice but also the motion capture that people realized how brilliant was his performance. Now it is widely considered the best thing about the trilogy. There is a parody of it on Animaniacs! There are other examples, remember the journalist who believed he was faking his real life accent during an interview because he sounded middle class and not so posh as Sherlock? Anyway, in less or more degree, I think some people are waiting for him to be Sherlock. Always being Sherlock. If he doesn't sounds like Sherlock then he is not him even when sometimes it's just him! Remember the John Finnemore sketch in which he is asked how is BC as person and they just doesn't accept when he says he is a humble nice normal guy. They aren't happy until he says he is a rude genius?! I imagine there is something about it in the few people who just can't see him as American. As someone said on Twitter, there wasn't a problem with his Grinch accent until they discovered it was him and not Paul Giamatti! Then they asked why he was doing an American accent instead of admit it was kind of amazing how he sounded so different there! But TBF it happens with other actors, too. I remember when Hugh Laurie accent was great in Dr. House but now that everyone knows he is British, it's not good. EDITED I was also thinking how this actually could change with his Doctor Strange. Believe it or not, I have seen a few tweets in the past of Americans surprised that he is actually British because they just thought he was American because the Marvel movies! The thing with Sherlock is that it was very popular but just in certain quarters, Internet was one of them, of course! That's why he is mainly know for it... on Internet! That's not the case in the real world. Without doubt most people have watched him as Dr. Strange than as Sherlock in the real world.

In the past few weeks, I’ve noticed that some people are seeing The Grinch for the first time and then posting their own reviews. They hate the accent that he uses, but they blame the makers of the movie and think forced Benedict was forced to sound American. They don’t know that it was his idea, and the makers of the movie actually wanted his English accent.

It's always his idea! Lol
Anyway they have to accustom to it because he is freaking Doctor Strange!

His American accent used to be a bit wobbly, years ago, but he’s worked hard on it and, just like everything else he does, it’s now perfect. And he can do regional variations! Remember his little Charles? That was dead-on perfect, too. They just don’t want to admit his talent, or they like nitpicking about him b/c he’s so adored. ☺️

Another comment about the trailer: I think they are cheating. Probably the film will center on Tahar Rahim with Jodie Foster having a supporting role and BC, an extended cameo. This theory is based in the actual plot in the source material, the comments by the award pundit last week and the actors time on set.

They posted the trailer.

That’s actually insulting to the real man who really sounds like that!
When you’re not used to hearing an accent, it’s always going to sound sort of fake. The first time our family went to Cape Cod, I was certain that everyone was deliberately trying to sound like JFK - and they always asked where we were from because of our accents! And when we went to New York the first time, I felt like I was on the set of a Woody Allen movie. And more recently, when I was in Texas and a woman shopping in a store said to us “I’m sorry! Am I standin’ where y’all wanna be?” - she thought she was in our way. I loved that - I still quote it once in a while!

I haven't had a chance to watch the whole trailer, but he sounds great so far. People are only criticizing because they are familiar with his British accent. If they'd never heard him before, there would be no problem.
Exactly. I watched a lot of episodes of House before even finding out he was British.

I was thinking that's kind of exciting that three Sunny March films are creating such a buzz and that all of them will be released in the same year! Of course, the timing isn't the best with The Mauritanian and The Courier but both are potentially very attractive to audiences and one was well received by critics meanwhile the other is considered award worthy by its American distributors.
EDITED Also if both will be released the same day, why we doesn't have a The Courier trailer?
