The comments to this tweet are strange. These people hate Benedict, and I don’t think any of them actually read the article. I’m worried that there will be more reactions like this.

I don't understand what is the problem with having this story being told. Same with Harriet, although the movie wasn't good.

There’s the one comment telling her she doesn’t have to do these kinds of movies anymore, so there’s an objection to the movie being made. And they also object to Benedict’s involvement because he was a slave owner.

It sounds like they object because they want more uplifting stories about black people, without slavery and with no 'white savior' characters (apparently there was one added to Harriet); the actress is controversial because of a tweet years ago mentioning "ghetto American accents"; they consider this exploiting slavery for Oscars; and BC's family history of slaveowning and "colored actors" gaffe a while back.
It seems come kind of objections come up for every project, so I hope he just does the projects he wants anyway. Complaints are premature at this stage, people are just assuming what they think will be in the film. Maybe they can choose POC to write and direct, to make sure these concerns are addressed.

"... because he was a slave owner." WTF? HE was a slave owner... utter bollocks!
OBS: "It seems come kind of objections come up for every project, so I hope he just does the projects he wants anyway."
BINGO! Personally I don't give a toss what ANYBODY has to object to about any of his projects. There will ALWAYS be some twat out there objecting to ANYTHING he does at some point in time. So if he did listen to this shit he'd NEVER act in or produce any movies!
The trouble is that most often the complaints are about totally opposite things. How many times have I seen bitching about him playing the "same old same old", and yet when he DOES do something different there's somebody out there crapping all over it!
This goes way back. Ever since he got "noticed" in Sherlock people have been ragging him about how such and such role is just another "version" of Sherlock.
And look at ALL the fucking flack he got about playing Khan!
Then there was 12YAS and the outrage about his ANCIENT ANCESTORS having once owned slaves (as if HE had to answer for that!).
And The 5th Estate - he wasn't "Australian" enough! They don't like his American accent (although before he was famous nobody said shit about his American accent from The Whistleblower!).
They think he does too many "posh white guy" roles. And yet if he does do something different then they complain that somehow he doesn't "fit" those roles!
And on and on it goes!
So fuck them! He should just do what he wants and the whiners can go suck on the tailpipe of their own indignation!

Everything in social media is insane! They don't hate BC. They hate her. Why? Probably because people is shitty on Twitter and nothing more but I actually researched when the news broke out and there were a minor reaction against her by people who seemed to hate her for some horrible tweets she supposedly did against African Americans and because the Harriet movie. About the tweets, I searched for them to see how bad they were. I found an article that talked about them that it was just woke lingo. It never said what she said! But it had a link to another article... with more woke lingo! But it also included a lot of tweets. But just one was by Erivo. The rest were by woke people attacking Erivo so it seems to me it's just one tweet. No, "tweets". And from 2013! She indeed made a joke about talking in "American guetto" in a conversation with a friend. Very silly and clearly offensive to some but is it something so unforgivable? Also why resurfaced? My theory is that someone searched for "problematic" stuff after she was cast in Harriet. There's a movement against black British actors playing American roles. It happened with Chiwetel Ejiofor in 12 Years a Slave (some even where against Steve McQueen directing it. Apparently neither of them could really understand what it was to be a slave because they aren't slaves descendant. They just happen to be black!) and with David Oyelowo in Selma. It's not something new but in this case, they found a 2013 tweet that somehow "confirmed" she hates African Americans! About the movie, I haven't watched it so I can't give an opinion about it but contrary to what some people are saying on Twitter it wasn't a failure. She was nominated to an Oscar and the movie was a box office hit. This is perplexing but not surprising: I saw tweets saying she was a loser that "they" want to make it happen but that everything she has done just bombed so hard and that the African-American community just hate her so much that her awful movie Harriet bombed so hard because no one went to see it but... that are just lies! And African Americans loved it! deadline.com/2019/11/terminator-dark-fate-linda-hamilton-harriet-motherless-brooklyn-weekend-box-office-1202774477/They are also angry at her because she will play another Africacan American icon in an unauthorized bio: Aretha Franklin. There are two dueling bios. One authorized by her family with American Jennifer Hudson and this one. You can imagine which one is being attacked! It's also ironic that some people are attacking a British project like this one because their discourse against Erivo is all about how she must stay on "her lane". Well, this movie is not their "lane" so why they even dare to talk about it?! 😉 (that's their logic!) Also, more important: they haven't watched the movie so how they know what it will contain and how it will be told? The book they are using as a source was written by an African American, Walter Dean Myers and the movie is produced not just by white Cumberbatch (he is actually "executive producer", a role that in most cases is just symbolic) but by three black women: Erivo, Solome Williams and Rienkje Attoh. Again wokes erasing minorities to make a stupid and fabricated points! Anyway, I hate to be told what to do by woke kids and I really hate bullies so I'm watching right now My Brilliant Friend on HBO but I now plan to watch The Outsider with this wonderful, talented and beautiful woman next and you bet I will search for her Harriet film. Also the song she sung in that event she did with BC was beautiful so here is a clip (apparently it's from the Harriet soundtrack!),

I saw a few tweets that bothered me yesterday so I stopped reading them. They were all against her so I guess the accusations about slaves-owening against BC (WTF?!) came later but another issue that made think a lot was how a lot of these kids were apparently against slave themed movies. For starters, this movie isn't exactly about it because she was "gifted" to the Queen but she wasn't treated as a slave. Actually the UK was against slavery by then (that's where the "white savior" accusations came from, I guess). Based in the summary, I imagine the film will be about an educated black woman struggling with her identity and racism but for most part in the film, not directly against slavery meanwile living in a very privileged world. But we won't know until they make the freaking film!
But about the movies about slavery, it's so dumb to see them as some kind of humiliation for the black community. Have they even asked themselves why the Holocaust survivors are so interested in promoting all kind of works that talk about the crimes commited against them! All these crimes against humanity should never being forgotten but somehow it's not surprising to me that's woke Internet warriors the ones who are promoting the concept that making artistic works that talk about slavery is racist and it must be stopped. It's insane!
EDITED; HBO Latin America has Harriet!
