Good luck on your treatment tomorrow! I hope it won’t hurt too badly. 🤗🥺
and yeah, woo, what an article! I think he’s got a lot of great points, but the “moral grandstanding” line hit me. So true!

Best wishes, roverpup! I hope this time won't be so painful!
I agreed with Stone that's mostly a political list and not just because they didn't included the allegedly greatest (white) Hollywood actors but I think it's very telling that they included Keanu Reeves! I mean I love Keanu Reeves! Who doesn't?! But that's exactly the issue! Is he better than what critics used to say he was? Sure! I love that there's a reevaluation of his talents! But calling him one of the best of the century feels a little like awarding the bullied kid with the best note just because he is the nicest and the most decent chap in the class!
I used to love AO Scott but I think he as other relatively young film critics is increasingly influenced by or at least fearful of social media fury. I think his Woody Allen piece was the breaking point because it's not just an extremely complex case in which he was actually exonerated but because it doesn't matter how influential a film critic is, he just doesn't declare that a major filmmaker should be totally erased from history even if the filmmaker is indeed a monster! That was very Stanlinist of his part: this guy is "inconvenient" right now so I would act like he never existed although he is one if not the most influential New York filmmaker ever!
It's just a list and it's their opinion so they could include whoever they want but also yes, it's a politically correct list with the "correct" people on it.

I hope the treatment worked and you won’t need any more. My sister’s next appointment is scheduled for December 23. Nothing says “Merry Christmas” like a sharp needle into your eyeball!

Well after all that - I had the WRONG day for the appointment! It's tomorrow! So one more say to anticipate it! Now I'll have to re-read that article and finish the Christmas decorations. 😊

A lot of great points made in the article and I think the author was careful to balance all the arguments nicely.
I agree with Sgev, concerning my own breaking point with Scott and his column about Woody Allen.
The moral grandstanding phrase was spot on!
As for the main focus, the exclusion of actors like Meryl Streep, granted it is just those two critics opinions but their "logic" as such sometimes defies close examination - except if you include the author's point that by excluding some obvious choices, they wanted to appear "woke" and also troll for clicks.
Can't take any "critic" who has Keanu Reeves on even the 100 best actors list! I'll say it loudly "I don't like KR's acting AT ALL!".
Now, I am off to get a needle poked in my eye... and somehow I think that's preferable to having watch KR act in anything!😘

Poor Keanu! It's also very obvious why they chose him (social media influence) because he doesn't even do movies that are usually loved by critics! I mean there a lot of not very good actors who become iconic because they work with certain auteur filmmakers who just make them look good (inexpensive faces of amateur actors are very common in some of the best movies ever. Thanks not to the actor but to what the filmmaker can suggest in those blank canvas) but that's not even the case here! He does a lot of forgettable stuff!
And again, I'm glad he is being reevaluated but going from being considered the less talented actor of his generation to one of the best of the century really needs more than just a few lines (in which Scott beautifully describes his..."blankness"?!) to make his case!
He seems to be a very nice guy so I'm kind of happy when good things happen to him but again that's the problem! It's not a rational appreciation. It's the opposite of when Twitter is canceling someone and people say "I knew I hated him/her for something" or declares that he or she was always bad in their work! They apparently are so evil that they manipulated everyone to believe they were talented except for Twitter users, of course, they always knew there was something off with them!

Well, the eye treatment went much better this time! Never really suffered at all - they obviously took my complaints about being in misery the last time seriously and REALLY froze my eyeball this time!
The good news is the fluid in my eye is completely gone now but unfortunately that doesn't mean I get to end the treatments just yet. The are going to slowly extend the wait time between needles and see if the fluid still is gone. But the bright side - I don't have to get another injection until mid January now!
😊
