I sent emails to each of the several people who had emailed me with details of the screening. Two have replied that they’re sorry but they’re not the ones who can grant me permission to watch the movie once the time has expired. The screener arrived in an email at 8:01, and by 9:00 they figured I had already watched the movie three times?
One person replied that I might not hear back from the people with power right away, and when (or if) I am given another chance to watch it, I should make sure I have a stable internet connection before trying to watch it again. Another person suggested that switching to a different browser might help the movie play without problems. I suppose that means that other people also had problems. I guess that makes me feel a tiny bit better . . .
Hold on! I just heard a ding and someone emailed me back: “We’re happy to inform you that the video owner has renewed access to the screener”. They’re giving me another chance! Not tonight, though, because I’m exhausted. Another ding! An email from one of the other people I wrote to pleading for another chance, telling me to check my email because I’ve been given three more views. Now they’re all going to write back to me with the same news!
Tomorrow I will have to try watching it on my laptop instead of my iPad so that can use a different browser. And I will have my fingers crossed that I don’t mess it up again.

I’m so sorry, Mllemass! That doesn’t sound like your stupidity, it sounds like faulty tech. 😕

This at least sounds promising mllemass. Fingers crossed. Good luck. Hope you get to see it! I agree with QZ - it wasn't your fault at all. It was that the technology wasn't working the way it should have!
It's like when I was registering for my covid shot. I was so nervous to get it right and then I found it wouldn't let me book an appointment for the rest of the year at first! 🤯😱😭 But after Dan talked me down off the ceiling, I realised it was just poor wording on the booking site and I figured out the system and I got an appointment!
It caused a bit of delay, but by the time I was booking Dan's appointment I was used to it and it only took a matter of minutes.
Second time will be a charm, you'll see!

You’re not the only one, Mllemass. There are 4-5 people on Twitter who reported the same problem. 😕

I just had a chat with a TIFF representative and I think I will try that route. She said the cost is anywhere from 5-22$ For a film and with both Dan and I eager to see this film that's less than what it would cost for the cinema. It's on starting next Friday.

You can all relax - I finally watched it. Ha!
The credits are playing right now, and I always watch the credits at the end of a movie. (The credits are finished now, but the counter shows another 10 minutes left to play . . .)
There were no issues at all this time. They had emailed me a link, and I had to go through the texted code process, and then it just started playing. There was that weird squealing screen again at the beginning, but only for a short time.
I decided this time to watch it on my sister’s desktop computer, with the big monitor I bought her for Christmas a few years ago. I sat at her desk and it felt like watching a wide screen at a movie theatre.
I guess to prevent people from trying to make copies of the movie, they have two watermarks across the screen the whole time - “Lionsgate” across the bottom, and my email address across the top! So much for my big plans to get rich selling bootleg copies!
Those watermarks are a big distraction, especially when the characters are speaking Russian and the subtitles appear over the word “Lionsgate”. But there was something thrilling about seeing Benedict with my name across his head.
I am still allowed 2 more viewings, so it will be nice to see it without the pressure of wondering whether it will work.
I will do a proper review later. And I have to find that checklist of stuff Benedict always does in movies. By the way, they didn’t have a scene with him jogging, even though we’d seen behind-the-scenes photos of him in running clothes.
(So, in those last ten minutes after the movie ended, they showed clips of the entire movie, from the first scene to the last, but without any sound.)

I found the most recent checklist posted here of stuff he does in movies. I hope these aren’t spoilers! -Crying✔️ -Running - we’ve already seen behind-the-scenes pictures of him running ✖️ -Swimming/bathing/being under water✔️ -Being naked (well, if he’s going to be in water anyway...)✔️ -drinking beverages angrily✔️

I'm happy for you mllemass! Sounds like you had a great viewing experience.
One question: (that hopefully you can answer without giving any spoilers) what do you mean about showing scenes of the movie in the last 10 minutes? Just highlights or select scenes or the entir movie speeded up? I'm sorry to sound so dumb but I really don't understand.
