There are already a few threads on Martin, but I figured I would start one here where it’s not about a particular role.
I just saw in the tv listings that Martin will be on James Corden on Tuesday. Has he done something new that he’s promoting? The last time he did these talk shows, he was promoting the new season of Breeders.

In case anyone was wondering what Martin talked about last night on James Corden . . .
He was, in fact, there to promote Breeders again. The season finale will be next week. He keeps referring to it as a “family” comedy/drama. It’s about a family, but it’s certainly not appropriate for children to watch. It’s very good, though. It’s so nice to watch something a bit unusual rather than the same old thing.
James asked him what his children thought about the huge series and movies he’s done. He said they like Sherlock. He also said they had never watched him in The Office because they like the American version, instead.

It must be strange to watch you father (or mother) act.

With both Martin and Amanda working together in Sherlock, I think their kids probably were used to watching them act. I remember when Amanda was on twitter and she used to tweet about their kids all the time. More than once she said that they reminded her of Sherlock and John.

Breeders is killing me. The episode this week was soooo tough to watch! 😭 It’s excellent, if you’re interested. I know! I found myself yelling at the tv that they were handling the problem with their son all wrong. And look what happened - I was right! They should have listened to me.

Haha Mllemass! I was yelling at my tv too! So painful! Paul needs to deal with his anger & control issues. Martin does SUCH a good job portraying people with suppressed anger. And his face at the end after that thing with Luke. God! 😱😭😬

We were talking about Method acting and how for whatever reason Keith Carradine seems to believe BC is some kind of Method actor! And now I saw this! uproxx.com/movies/martin-freeman-jim-carrey-method-acting/Lol. He is right, of course! BC isn’t a Method actor but he is clearly more sympathetic to it than Freeman! Still, he criticized actors behaving like idiots in the name of it! I’m also reading the late Norman Lloyd book and he describes the exact moment it become a thing in USA theater. He as a classical trained actor was very cynical about it but he also laments how auto destructive were some of the actors who practicing it.

I’m not so sure that Jim Carrey’s acting is some kind of “method” - I think it’s just him being him. I think he gets offered roles to match his wacky personality.
I saw him perform in person many years ago, when I was still in high school. Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons were doing a concert in my city, and Jim Carrey was their opening act. Although he wasn’t famous yet, we recognized him because he was in a funny lottery commercial that was on tv during that time. I remember that he was crazy and funny, running around the stage and doing hilarious impressions of celebrities, like his famous Mick Jagger impression. Nothing about his acting has really changed in the many years since then.

I think he is referring to his very specific performance in The Man on the Moon. There is a Netflix documentary and for what I understand they claim he basically behaved awfully in an intent of keeping himself in character all the time. I haven’t watched the documentary, tho. but clearly Freeman did! Lol His performance was acclaimed in that movie and he was great. A dramatic role, not his usual comical performance although there is a little of that! He failed to being nominated to the Oscar, tho. which unfairly it’s seen as the main approval of being a good dramatic actor and not just a wacky comedian. EDITED, this is the documentary Freeman was referring: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_%26_Andy:_The_Great_BeyondWatching the trailer, it’s obvious Freeman is right! Lol
