My theory is that Marvel wanted to try and broach into "Oscar movie" territory, since the prevalent criticism of Marvel movies is that they're unsubstantial "popcorn flicks." Feige thought the way to do that was to hire Chloe Zhao - a decision I was wary of from the beginning! The reason "Nomadland" was as good as it was (your mileage may vary!) was because it was unhurried and quiet. Not a really good fit for Marvel if you ask me, as opposed to Taika Waititi. I think that's why more than one critic compared Eternals to a "DC" movie, in that it tried to paint a sheen of grandiosity and seriousness on what is supposed to be a fun, ridiculous story. If Marvel wanted an Oscar winner to direct their next movie, I can think of quite a few who could've done it better than Zhao - off the top of my head Guillermo del Toro and Alfonso Cuaron. sgev1977 You should watch Infinity War! It has a *surprising* amount of BC, lol. Or if you don't feel like following the story, I'm sure there's a youtube compilation of his scenes already.

Yes, that’s what I bought Infinity War and not the other one! Because I heard that there’s a lot of BC!
Marvel doesn’t need the Oscar nor Scorsese nor even critics! That’s their error and who knows? It could be their doom! There’s this inferiority complex in some Marvel people and fans that doesn’t make sense because they already won. The Oscar is dying meanwhile art cinema is more niche than ever. If Scorsese attacks them it’s because they are the System. Not the other way!
And yeah, without having watching the film, I think that maybe she wasn’t the right “acclaimed” filmmaker to do a genre film.
