Thanks I'll try the subtitles. It's not that the dubbing is that bad and the voices are Ok but I am curious as to what the original actors sound like and dubbing is always inferior IMO. It is discombobulating when people's words don't match their mouth movements exactly. Really distracting sometimes and there are times that it is really obvious that the person saying the words isn't the one on screen doing the actions.

I’ve noticed before that whenever there is dubbing on Netflix, the subtitles don’t quite match the voices. I leave the subtitles on even when I switch to English dubbing so that I can keep the volume down on the tv. They obviously have different people doing the translating. The meanings are the same, but the words are different. For example, the character’s dubbed voice says “Is the offer of a ride still available?”, but the subtitle says “Can I still get a lift from you?”. So it makes sense, but it can be a bit weird!
And it’s not just in English - I took an English-language Netflix movie and chose Italian dubbing and subtitles for my parents to watch. They were so different and confusing that I had to turn off the subtitles.

I think the problem with French/English dubbing is that it takes longer to say a lot of things in French than it does in English so it’s very difficult to match the mouth movements. But whatever the language I hate dubbing as I prefer to hear the original actors voices.
French is the only language other than English that I can speak(sort of!) I’m not fluent enough to follow without subtitles but even so I’ve found that having French spoken in the background is improving my skills by osmosis. The more I watch the more I find myself understanding without the translation.
By the way, as a lockdown project I tried to learn German online. I found the pronunciation and vocabulary easy as it is quite similar to English in many instances. But, dear Lord, the grammar 😱😱😱. It’s so difficult compared to English or French. I will need some interaction with an actual human teacher to have a shot at mastering it.

I just watched the first episode of S3. It’s SO GOOD! I love being dazzled by someone so smart and clever - it’s kind of the same feeling as watching Sherlock. Somehow, I feel smarter just watching it.

Have you watched S1 and S2? If not, S3 will not make any sense at all. But if you’re starting from the very beginning, it took me the first 2 or 3 episodes until I finally got it, and then I was hooked.
It moves very fast, so you have to pay close attention. Even then, you will miss stuff which, fortunately, they eventually explain. I don’t think you’re supposed to catch everything when they first show it, so it can feel like you’re lost. But you’re not! It’s all part of the show.

I did watch the previous seasons and liked them. I was looking forward to it. But the first episode didn't interest me. All that sequence with the guy, the briefcase, at the metro, etc., or the way he was believed in the jewelry that he wasn't him, he and his friends passing for cops, the real cops and all the rest of the people at the jewelry being stupid, etc, instead of make me think "how clever!", it just irritated me. I was probably too tired, I'm not seeing well from one eye and that combined with the super quick way the French speak, messed with the reading of the subtitles. So perhaps I'll return to it. But, I don´t know if I want just more of the same.

I wonder if maybe you have to be in the mood for Lupin before watching it? I know that I put it off until I was ready to pay attention to it rather than to the mindless videos that I spend way too much time watching!

I just watched the final 5 episodes of S4, and it was wonderful! Sure, it was far-fetched a lot of the time, but I loved it anyway. My favourite part? Just as I was thinking “Wait - what happened to Bruno? We haven’t seen him in a while. I hope he’s ok”, there he is! I actually cheered (with my arms up in the air) and yelled “Bruno!” at my tv!
