I read this article this morning and thought about how continental Europe really want the revenge, doesn’t? You know, first the cruel way they treated poor British truck drivers in the New Year, then the Astra Zeneca conflict and now it seems they don’t consider UK an European country anymore! At least not “culturally”! LOL www.theguardian.com/world/2021/jun/21/eu-prepares-cut-amount-british-tv-film-shown-brexitI was thinking on SunnyMarch and then I remembered that they partnered with StudioCanal and they are French. I wonder how the current laws work there. Are Paddington Bear movies considered French because they are actually produced by the French or are they plainly considered UK content because the bear and its family are British? Sometime ago, I heard about a group of French kids who created a TV show about Japanese manga and then they were warned by French authorities that they had to include a huge percentage of French stuff if they wanted to continue on air. The problem was that there wasn’t too much French manga out there! I don’t remember what happened next! But yeah, it apparently is very difficult to be enamored of foreign popular things in France! They are very protective of their own culture!

In Quebec they are now saying that ONLY "Quebec music" will be allowed in provincial offices (elevators, lobbies, offices, telephones while you are on hold, etc.). They wouldn't answer the media's questions when they wanted clarification as to whether that meant French language music only or whether music made by Quebecois musicians, whether it was in French or not, would be allowed. The Quebec government is protective of language and culture to the point of being xenophobic, IMO.

I think the French are trying to hold back an overwhelming tide. Many English words have already made their way into the day to day language there despite Government opposition. It’s inevitable. English, like it or not, is the dominant language in Western TV, Music and Film so it’s very hard to avoid its influence.
