Someone on twitter defending Jared Leto pointed out that Marlon Brando underwent a physical transformation for The Godfather and everyone thought he was brilliant. I think they’re forgetting that Corleone was a fictional character, so they created what he looked like. And if I remember it correctly, Marlon Brando himself thought to stuff cotton into his cheeks to help with the voice he wanted the character to have. And, he still looked like Marlon Brando!
It’s sort of like Benedict wanting to wear fake teeth to play Alan Turing, or a wig and contact lenses to play Julian Assange and Dominic Cummings. It still looks like Benedict!

Remember when Charlize Theron “uglified” herself for Monster? She won an Oscar for that role. How much of that win was for how “brave” she was for being ugly? I mean, if you allow yourself to look like an average, large woman, hey, isn’t that Oscar worthy?

I’m remembering also some movie with Reese Witherspoon that was mocked for her so-called “brave” performance. I think one reviewer said that the highlights in her hair weren’t as shiny as they normally were.

It’s silly because people think “transformative” performance is the only real good way of acting but at the same time they don’t identify it when they see it and are convinced that it’s all about using prosthetics! For example, BC is a transformative actor in the sense that he comes from a theatrical tradition (as opposed to the just be yourself film way of acting. Neither of them superior or inferior) but there are people out there saying he always play himself because he looks like him even when most of the time he is using different hairstyles and make up. His features are easily identified so he doesn’t “transforms”. If they actually put attention to the performances they would noticed that his accent, way of move and poses are always different. Also why they think he is like Sherlock or Dr, Strange? (Those two are normally the only thing they have seen him!)

I think Sophie would like him to be Dr. Strange more frequently. 😏

Don't look up ad during the Olympics Games:
HoG: lots of horrible accents. DLu: lots of horrible wigs.
Funny thing: a poster on aw compared Adam Driver's accent to the real English accent of Maurizio Gucci to show how good was AD. I find it so funny. If he were speaking Italian, but no ...

Americans don't complain about bad foreign accents, because we can't tell they're bad. We're more used to bad American imitations of those accents!
I loved Ana in Knives Out.

After the avalanche of festival announcements, all the discussion around the film is again only about the Oscar possibilites and I ended reading some award fan boys sites and social media and it's so pathetic!
First there was the rumor that Macbeth maybe isn't very good. Now there's a rumor that Spencer is great so the fate of those two movies are decided by "some rumors" by people who know someone who said they watched the film or, at least, know someone who work at the studio. No analysis nor debate. They are good or bad movies because some random on social media claims he has some contacts! Seriously, how it's this different of the comic book fan boys?

What do you think about this?
I know the rumor began on World of Reel. First they said it was originally include in Venice line-up but that it was rejected because there was some conflict between Netflix and the festival then later said that the conflict was between Netflix and the filmmakers. Then he just deleted the post!
I personally didn’t expected that Venice included it because even when Thierry Frémaux suggested that both this one and TPOTD would go to Venice (instead his festival), Variety and Screen Daily, the publications that leaked movies that were indeed included, never mentioned this one. It was just gossipy “film” blogs and Film Twitter the ones that speculated this was totally in. (There was also the silly Deadline article that after saying they don’t like speculation quoted someone saying “this will be Netflix festival” supposedly because the number of movies the streaming service had in it. They were three and only one of them in English but competing for Australia and New Zealand!)
Also as many in the comments say, Netflix doesn’t seem scare of sexually explicit films. I could imagine that they thought it would be more award friendly and not very divisive and were disappointed with the cut so they decided to not campaign for it and discreetly release it next year but I don’t imagine them asking for a more “family oriented”cut! But of course, I don’t have “contacts” like award pundits and fanboys on social media have! 😉
EDITED I just checked and the post is still on the blog so it wasn’t deleted although I think it was edited.
