Willy Wonka will always be Gene Wilder - not Johnny Depp and not Timothee Chalamet!

You know what? I think Call Me By Your Name is a lovely film but Episode 2 and 4 of Patrick Melrose are a much more complex and depth stories about rich people in the Mediterraneo. I know, different animals! But PM has exactly what critics accuse Guadagnino'films of lacking: class consciousness. CBYN is about rich people enjoying life meanwhile PM is about the awfulness of rich people. And it's also much more daring. At least you are homophobic, it's difficult not to enjoy CBYN. Like a lot of productions about people with money it's aspirational. A fantasy (like superhero movies!). Who doesn't want to live there and having that life, that house and that family? That father?! But no one would want to have Patrick's dad?! At all! PM is populated by rich people who are terminal addicts, pedophiles and monsters! A middle class wife/mother (Mary/Bridget) could save you or at least try to save you but a rich family member, including a mother, is there only for rape you, abandon you and humiliate you. Family and wealthness are monsters that devour their own and destroy everything. It's a horrible spectacle and not for the faint of heart. That's why it wasn't watched by too many but yeah, it's superior to a lot of acclaimed Oscar winning films. At least Jane Campion watched it!
And it was produced and starred by Dr. Strange himself! Surely greenlighted, at least in part and after years of trying, with that Dr. Strange fame!

Isn’t Tom Holland already doing that? I haven’t watched his Spider Man movies, but he can probably get away with playing a teenager for years to come. And he moves like a dancer and has charm.
Sorry, but I don’t see the appeal of TC, and I know it’s probably because I’m old. But I do see Tom Holland’s appeal!

I’ve watched that Lip Sync video many, many times! He’s amazing in it. I think it’s so funny that in an interview he said he was disappointed that he wasn’t able to wear high heels because he was worried about slipping in the rain.

RE the appeal of TC, I think it’s like the appeal of any actor or any person… there really are a wide variety of people and preferences. It’s like when people say they don’t get BC’s appeal or don’t find him attractive… it’s fine as long as they allow that others may feel differently then them. I remember when I was a teen, most of my friends crushed on Tom Cruise and Richard Gere or Andy Gibb … and I just did.not.get.it. Meanwhile I crushed hard on Michael Douglas and Bryan Brown and Sam Neill and others. I had one friend who had similar taste, and when we got old enough to drive, we’d go to this one movie theater that had movies with the actors we liked … I think we saw FX 4 times and wound up smitten with Bryan Brown AND Brian Dennehy. It really takes all kinds.

I do understand that all kinds of people can have appeal. I was just stating my preference! TC’s young, pretty-boy look has never appealed to me, even when I was much younger. I find lots of different looks appealing, though.

Remove The Fifth Estate and that average would shoot up to 8.2 (I reckon). 😂
