On the other hand, there are at least two tweets in Russian that seem angry at the project! (The translation by Google is kind of incoherent, tho)
More important, it was a Black List script!

Looks promising, and I'm so glad it's on HBO this time! On a shallower note, I'm not happy that he has to lose so much weight again - or shave his head, for that matter 🙈

Reading this synopsis I have to say that this project sounds nothing like The Courier, so I don't really get all the pissing and moaning on Twitter, etc. about how BC shouldn't be doing this project.
I also don't agree that he should do a "rom-com". It's one of my least favourite genres (along with horror movies and musicals!), so I can certainly wait a looooong time before seeing his name associated with that type of movie.
Not that he wouldn't be great in it and act his heart out in it, just that I find that kind of storytelling boring for the most part. It's probably THE hardest genre to write!
I can't remember the last time I saw a decent rom-com. If it can't measure up to Groundhog Day or Love Actually then it shouldn't be made in my mind.
But at least I'm giving it a chance to exist at all. Musicals and horror films... um, almost all of those belong in the "round file" from my perspective (so I hope he NEVER does one of those!).

He swore he won’t do the weight lose again! We will see!
I read a few reactions and interesting enough the most negative ones are by fans! Well, by Russians pro-Putin and fans! Lol It seems a lot of people think someone from real life is automatically the same than a biopic and because the “cool” kids, that barely have watched films, are nowadays saying biopics are something bad and boring then they think biopics are bad and boring!
TBF the summaries of the original script sound like it had a lot of biopic elements but like a lot of BC’s allegedly “biopics”, it sounds like it’s mostly a real life thriller. I wonder why it’s rarely mentioned BC interest on contemporary political stories but that’s the problem when the vocabulary of critics (and some fans) doesn’t go beyond of words like “biopic”, “genius” and “spy” (and no, Litvinenko wasn’t a genius. Maybe a “super man” in the sense that he was trained as such but the guy was slightly over the top in his criticism to Putin. If I remember well, he accused him of things like raping little children. Now, obviously, some of his criticisms were very real because he was killed in the most spectacular way and no government would bother to do that if they didn’t felt threatened by the man!) .
I am personally also interested on these themes and I think the filmmaker behind this sounds interesting and on point for the project. Also recently HBO produced another fascinating series about Russia, Chernobyl. And it was a huge hit! (I saw a Russian on Twitter saying this new project will be full of lies like Chernobyl. That’s why I remembered it!)
I certainly will read the book!

I just looked it up, and he was poisoned on November 1, and died 22 days later. And he was in a hospital, not a prison cell, so they wouldn’t have let him waste away during that time.

The ones moaning seems to be very uninformed fans. I sincerely doubt they put attention to the events when they happened in real life. It’s actually an extremely fascinating and shocking story. I think it’s similar to the stories in the other film of the director, The Dissident (about Jamal Khashoggi death) and another documentary about a recent event I am also eager to watch, Assassins (about Kim Jong-name’s murder), Litvinenko’s death was the first widely publicized (because there were other before him) murder done in that very public and explosive way in a foreign land and by a very scary dictator showing that he could do anything, anywhere, without anyone noticed and without any consequences. It’s very chilly and disturbing.

It seems the ITV one will centers on the murder and on his wife as a widow fighting for justice meanwhile the HBO one is full of flashbacks about his past as a KGB agent so it sounds he is the main lead.
I personally would watch both! Lol People saying it's weird and crazy that there ate two projects at the same time doesn't know anything about films! Lol
I laughed at the girl asking if the BBC couldn't find a Russian actor. Well, if they find one they could try a third project because these two aren't by the BBC!
I saw the DW reporting the BC one in Russian!
